Washer dryers

**excited**, 22 February, 2009 at 17:31 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

Hello all.

We have just ordered a new kitchern and instead of a washer and a dryer we are having a washer dryer due to space.

What are you experiences of these please?

Thank you.

We have one in our rented flat and, sorry to say, it's rubbish. You can't use it just as a dryer, it will only start the drying cycle as a follow on to a washing cycle, which means you have to do more loads as you can't put together things that can and can't be tumble dried. It also takes forever to dry. Three times as long as the dryer we used to have in our previous place. My sister also has a washer dryer and has the same problem with incredibly long drying time. We don't use the dryer part anymore. We dry everything on airers in front of the radiators.

We bought last year when we had a new kicthen. I haven't had any problems with unless its my own doing(forgetting I had the tumble drier on for previous wash so I dry the next load when I hadn't planned or putting some things into dry and forgetting to put it on the drying programme so they wash again.) I find myslf actually using the dryer less as I normally have to put another load in so dry stuff on a airer.

Actually after reading Mel's reply I have to agree it seems to take a long to dry. I do have a separate drying programme on mine. For me it has more pro's than cons

We have one and it's ok, but I wouldn't have it by choice (we rent at the mo). It does have a separate drying cycle so that's not a problem but it takes a long time to dry stuff - you have to have a smaller load than you would in a normal tumble drier and things like towels take ages! It's ok for occassional use and is handy in the winter but we tend to hang things on the line outside whenever possible.

LOML and I both have the same Hotpoint one. It's okay, but I don't attempt to get stuff 100% dry in it (apart from running stuff and sheets, which obv dry quickly). I still have to hang stuff up to dry (use an airer in the living room), but because it's dryer to start with it doesn't take as long. I'm not sure I'd use a dryer to get things 100% dry even if I had one - things dry in better shape if they hang up for a bit and less needs to be ironed, and anyway the amount of energy it uses it frightful.

We had one in our UK house, and it was fine. We had none of the problems people usually complain about with washer/dryers - it washed fine, it dried fine. We didn't use the dryer bit much, but when we did it dried things. Unfortunately I have no idea what make this marvelous machine was, but I know we got it from John Lewis.

I have one of these and I'm afraid it is rubbish. The dryer is really inefficient - takes ages to dry. I find it is quicker to dry things on a heater, or even to iron them dry. Also, the drum is really small, so washing loads have to be small. I can't even get a single king sized sheet in my washer dryer without the load really badly unbalancing the drum. It was much more expensive than a normal washing machine and doesn't have half the functionality a cheaper washing machine would have (like a timer for loads to start at a set time).

I won't get a washer dryer again - I'll go with a normal washing machine and dry things over the heaters. I'm even thinking of getting rid of my washer dryer despite it being working and new just to replace it with a normal washing machine.

I've always had a washer/dryer. Mainly down to space. But I don't use the dryer that much anyway mostly just to finish off the towels or sheets if they are still a bit damp or cold from being outside all day. Otherwise I just use radiators and a clothes horse.

Mine has a separate drying cycle. And the drum is big enough in mine to do king size bedsheets plus a few other things at once.

My last one lasted 9 years before having to get a new one.
