Washing machine recommendations please

NickyNooNaa, 17 November, 2008 at 15:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Another exciting Monday afternoon post!

Stupid washing machine broke last night. 5 years old, stupid integrated, stupid warranty ran out 6 months ago. What has happened to washing machines lasting forever? My mum's machine lasted 14 years which saw us thre kids growing up!

Not looking for integrated and not too fussed about price as H's nan is going to buy it as our Christmas present (the excitement of being an adult needing white goods! [:'(]) and we will take it with us/if when we move.

I'm bamboozled by how much choice there is. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

I feel your pain. Ours gave up just before Christmas last year. We bought this one in the sales but I see it's on offer again.

It's great for me as I have a lot of washing to get through so 7kg is a good load capacity. It has a 30 minute quick wash, a timer, a cool wash and a handwash option.

The only downside is the noise on the last spin but I've got used to it now.

We have a Zanussi, I like it because it has no dials and a digital display but I can't find a picture of one on the internet. It has up to 1400 spin, quick wash if you don't want to wait ages and the usual programmes for outdoor sports (heavily soiled) prewash etc. It does the job and we tend to always get Zanussi. If we had more money I'd probably try a Miele, they're supposed to be really good.

Join "which?" - costs a quid at the moment for 30 days. gives you the best 5 or more after full testing etc.

I'm in the same situation as you, except I've managed to get mine fixed for now. But for future reference I asked the repair man what brand he would buy and he said only Miele or Bosch.

Bought Miele washer and dryer when we moved into our house 6 years ago. Currently they are being hammered by the tenants who are living in our house (they have 2 small children, so it'll be hammered alright!), and one of the things they commented on when I went to see them last week was how happy they are with both machines - especially the washer.

They're also over the moon with the Miele dishwasher (I hate them for bringing that up as I missed it terribly when we moved out here!), but they'd never buy a Miele oven as it's had to be replaced twice since they moved in (it was new when we left).

Sorry, distracted myself a little there, but the answer is ? for Miele washers and dryers

I have a miele washing machine which is 2nd hand and now 22 years old, and going strong! When it dies we will only buy another Miele!

Thanks everyone, looks like it will be a Miele!

NickJ - tried to register on Which but when I'm doing so I'm getting a "cannot display this page".
