We need your help!

EKent010809, 24 January, 2009 at 23:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 47

Hi my name is Emma Kent and my fiancee is Richard Hardy. We have been together 6 years and we have a beautiful 11 week old daughter called Yvie.

Since Monday, Richard has been campaigning for votes to win us a dream wedding through the radio station 2tenfm which is broadcast from Reading.

Basically we need your help to get some more votes! Please could you go to www.2tenfm.co.uk and click on the Getaway Groom link and vote for Richard Hardy. It will take about a minute of your time.

Many thanks in advance for voting!

Emma, Richard and Yvie xxx

Also, if you are a member of Facebook, please join our group called 'vote for Richard Hardy- 2tenfm's Getaway Groom'. We'd love to hear any messages you may have for us!

I'm going to be like a bad smell that's hard to get rid of.

    ?

You'd probably be better off posting this on Planning.

I voted for Dougie, he seems like a nice, ordinary guy who loves his fiancee (and I think the only one who hasn't beenw ith his fiancee for 6 years - how odd!)

I'm not voting for any of them. I find competitions like this tacky at the best of times. Save up like everybody else.

Totally uncalled for comments I think. If you don't want to vote then ignore the message. It is mind boggling to comprehend why some people find OT unfriendly and bitchy isn't it?

Eh? You find it odd to be with someone for 6 years before getting married? Or you find it odd he's the only one who hasn't?

I completely agree with you. I find that recently OT has be coming more unfriendly, bitchy and very nasty.

People moan that no one comes on here anymore, lets face it, it isnt very welcoming anymore. I come on here less and less lately as I cant believe how so people are just plain rude.

    Sorry but thats my thoughts.

I don't think to comments were uncalled for. She's a stranger who has popped on for votes. I might think about voting for someone I *knew* ,but not a complete stranger iyswim. I think she's being cheeky.

Come on, Janna. If a regular poster had asked for help, they'd get it. But why the hell should we help some random who just wants something for nothing?

    It's like SOSinFrance, wedding-stylee ?

I do think it's cheeky registering and asking for votes and, like The Bag said it would be very different if it were a regular OTer, but I read it and ignored it.

Then in a way, why not just ignore it.

I dont think Janna is just talking about this thread, I think she is also talking over all about OT just being unfriendly recently, which I agree with, some times it's uncalled for.

No, OT is intolerant of morons (and rightly so).

Besides, there have actually been a couple of rather witty and erudite new posters here over the last week who clearly 'get' the forum. This was a simple fire and forget by someone who's probably just googled wedding forums.

I think you're the one being unnecessarily bitchy with that comment.

Where have I been bitchy? Sarky maybe, but that's really unfair to say that I've been bitchy, Baron.

Sophs, yes fair enough, I hadn't spotted she'd only got one post, I assumed she was a WPer.

Still stand by the fact that some of the comments were un-neccessary and it's not just about how the OP is left feeling about the thread, it's all the other people who read it and might be put off.

Janna, it's bloody rude of her to just come on and ask this favour. She has no intention of hanging around and perhaps becoming part of this community. Whoever said she should post on WP instead; I don't think she should It would be just as rude.

Apologies if I've misinterpreted Janna but that sounded like an indictment of everyone who had posted on this thread - calling them bitchy sounded bitchy in itself. Anyway, comments that OT is unfriendly are as old as these forums ?

I feel very fortunate to have been on the receiving end of some fantastic support from OT recently, so I know that this forum isn't full of bitches or nastiness. However, I think it's very much about give and take, and people won't like it if a person who has never contributed to the forum suddenly wants favours or support from it.

I know that Freecycle say it's seen as bad form to post a wanted request when you've never offered anything first and I see Hitched in the same way. I also agree with Baron that the OP has, in all liklihood, just Googled wedding sites and won't become a regular contributor.

I'm not saying you have to be well known, know Hitchers irl, or go out of your way to do favours for people in order to receive civilised comments, because I've done none of that either, but it helps to have a little respect before jumping in asking for favours.

Yes, fairy muff, I apologise for posting before looking at the girl's post count. It does make a difference, I agree. I still think the best thing to have done would be just ignore it, as others may be put off OT by some of the responses. But there we are. Truce? ?

to be fair, i think the ?iest of ? planners would see this girl has an awful cheek and would not be perturbed at the responses she's received.

and if they are than perhaps they are too sensitive little souls for OT in any event? ?

And I would add that i think the forum has actually calmed down a lot recently - there are the occasional flashpoints but there does seem to be more tolerance all round lately.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear, of course it's not odd to be with someone for 6 years before getting married, I just meant it seemed strange that if you read about each of the grooms they all seem to have been with their fiancees for the same amount of time ie 6 years (except the aformentioned Dougie).

And for the record I don't think many people have been unfriendly or bitchy. Having had their attention drawn to the competition they have looked at the choices and voted according to their preference. Unfortunate for the OP that people have found other candidates more deserving (or whatever their criteria may be) but there it is.

Edited to add: I answered your post without reading the rest of the thread so sorry if you think my second comment is a bit OTT - it would help if I read everything first wouldn't it?

I'm another who thinks it's cheeky of the OP to ask for help. She's never posted before, and most likely wont again. WHy should we spend our time helping anyone win anything if they aren't giving us any of their time.

Any I don't think OT is bitchy at all. It's calmed down loads. And even on occasions when it does get 'bitchy', it's for a good cause. It's not like there's unnecessary bullying going on.

FWIW I agree with The Bag aswell. Some random desperate for a free honeymoon has found this site and registered just to get us to vote for them - why should we? It's very cheeky IMHO, if she'd have been a contributor that I knew of then of course i'd have voted and wouldn't have been rude at all. I'm not even clicking on the link, I don't feel the need to vote for someone else just to be catty, I don't feel THAT strongly about it. I don't agree we're b1tchy either, I think we give masses of support and I have been on the receiving end of support too but we don't tolerate stupids as Baron has already said.

I didn't vote for someone else to be catty - the person I voted for genuinely seemed to be the most deserving and I think it was damned rude for the OP to join this community with absolutely no intention of contributing. If nothing else, if she bothers to come back and see how her thread is doing she might learn a lesson about internet etiquette.

No the OP is being cheeky, but I guess she thought why not.

hold on there janna. othes may be put off by the responses? yes, assuming those others are equally moronic and thoughtless as the OP. anyone with any sense of etiquette, internet or otherwise knows full well you dont just register on a forum and ask for votes or freebies like that. its a total pisstake. as others have said, if a regular person (who has contributed to the forum) asked for help, i m sure everyone would give it. and as baron said, this was a post and run, i m be surprised if they even came back at all.

some forum members will help anyone, no matter what. even those who have been members for years but never make a single positive contribution, but just ask for things and then disappear, their help requests are always answered, why, i have no idea, but to register and then say "help us get a free honeymoon" is a total joke. in fact if i was a moderator, i d probably delete it.

I think it's cheeky in an amusing way that the op probably gas just googled wedding forums and found this. I think it is even more amusing that it is causing such a forore here - she's probably not even reading the comments as she'll be off somewwhere else posting the same message. Why not just ignore it?

(and this is from a reular bt'er who is scared of the unfriendlies on OT, lol)

is hardly causing a "furore", people are just talking about it. OT is a robust forum, and if you think this is a "furore" then im not surprised youre scared of OT ?

    Wow...

Never thought things would be so catty for one post. Your opinion is your own and you can express it anyway you want...

I was only trying to get some support from fellow brides to be who are in my position but ours being a little different. We will have our wedding anyway but have a opportunity to make it even better by winning this competition for our family. You can Vote for any of the contestants you like but we were only trying to get some postive support towards this.

Sorry for this post offending any of the members,

    Emma, Richard and Yvie.
