Wedding abroad - Change of Plan!

bevacreek, 17 April, 2013 at 11:30 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 4

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted much on the hitched forums but would really value some help and advice. We have had our UK wedding booked since the end of January, we have only paid a £500 deposit. Over the last few weeks we have begun to realise that a UK wedding isn't what we want, we would love to get married in Spain. We have spoken to our families and they approve of our decision so the next thing to do is start planning!! I have no idea where to start or what to do first!!

Any advice you could give me would be great!

Thanks

Bev ?

    Hi Bev,

I'm a destination bride too! I tell about my experience...I'm going to get married in Italy, which is rich of venues and planners and it's hard to narrow the search. There are all kinds of venues: from small agriturismi to great mansions and of course each comes with a different price tag. It's up to you honestly. Before you start your search, you and your hubby should reason on what you are willing to spend for your wedding. This is already a first big step which will help you in beginning your search. The next thing you can consider is whether you would want guests to stay in the same property. For example I hired a country home which can sleep nearly 20 guests.Once divided the cost of accommodation among all guests we basically have the venue for no cost. These are my hints ... and for my peace of mind I hired a wedding planner, she takes care about everything including crazy paperwork!... I think they can show you some ideal venues to work on your budget, and their guidance could surely be of help for you.

    Enjoy the planning! ?

    Hi Josssh,

Thank you so much for your reply!! It's really helpful!

We did originally want to get married in Spain but we have since found out we can only have a blessing and would have to have a civil ceremony at home as well which we really don't want. We want to get married on the day and know we're married.

So we've been looking at Italy and the Greek Islands, the only problem is we want to make it as cheap as possible for our guests and I'm worried the flights and accomodation will be too expensive. It's such a shame about Spain as our guests could just grab a cheap easyjet flight!!

So torn on what to do!! Weddings are stressful!

Thanks again for your help Josssh Smiley smile

We're marrying in Italy for exactly those reasons. We'll be flying to Naples and easyjet flights are cheap!! We're going next month and our flights were £50 each!

    Hi Bev,

    Congratulations!!!!!

We had the same problem - we are getting married in Malta this year, the legalities are so straightforward (and the ceremony is in english).

We contacted various planners in different countries - just a word of warning, some do bend the truth. We felt the same way as you, we wanted the ceremony to be the "wedding" and not already be married before it.

I know the laws have recently changed in Italy which made me a little nervous (I am a born worrier though) and then someone mentioned Malta, there will be plenty of advice on here from other Italy brides.

Some people have opted for Santorini which we almost went for but then somehow we ended up with Malta.

We're flying out tomorrow to check everything out, I am beyond excited...

    Good luck with the planning!

    xxx
