Wedding album help please (xposted)

Clohugs, 24 June, 2009 at 14:46 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi

To cut a long story short, we decided to get prints and a CD of high res images from our wedding photographer with the idea that we could put together an album ourselves. I realise that this may not be such a great money saving idea now, but ho-hum - it's done & I think I'll have fun playing about with the photos and what not.

I want to produce a hard cover reportage style album with black pages and overlays which have apertures cut out - i guess like spicer hallfield (are they now in administration?)...as well as a digital coffee table style book .

Does anyone have any recs for suppliers who deal with the public but are relatively good quality/value for money ?

Thanks v much.

I'll try to remember to ask my Dad about the the 'proper' album suppliers as he uses a company in the UK .... but I know they are hideously expensive to buy as you buy the 'album' and then the pages/apertures etc seperately and I was horrified at the cost when I first asked him about doing my album for me ... just to warn you! Have you googled it at all??

For the coffee table book - Truprint is your friend (if you mean an actual 'book' and not a digital frame!!! ?. Honestly ... the album I have from them is fabulous... At full cost mine would have been about £150 but I got it half price simply down to a special offer they were running at the time... but its about 200 pages and over 400 photos placed by me in the order/style I want. And everyone says how good it looks. You can add text too, so we have our vows written on the last page....

Spicers are in administrations, but their stockists may still have what you're after. I got a Spicers reportage album from Calumet - they have shops around (birmingham, nottingham off the top of my head).

Spicer are still open...but are still producing orders.

I'd get them from Calumet, or if you want, we could order one for you? Xx

Thanks v much for the recs everyone. I've not got my heart set on a Spicer album or anything - they just came up when I googled "reportage photo album black overlays"... I'll check out calumet - haven't heard of them before, but jsut checked & they have a shop not too far away so that's handy.

Re - price - they do seem to be v expensive... Does anyone know if there are any cheaper alternatives to professional album suppliers that do the overlays? They albums don't have to be leather....

Digital wise - yup I did mean a book, SP and not a photo frame!! I'll check out truprint - thanks!

This is going to be expensive isn't it?!?

We used www.blurb.com for our coffee table albums, they're US based but supply to the UK, and are very reasonably priced. The quality is fantastic and the software is easy to use. Can't recommend them highly enough. We got smaller books for our parents for only £15 plus P&P for 40 pages, the bigger the book and the more pages you have, the more you pay. P&P isn't too bad either.

One of my suppliers is Middlewall, a UK based company. The following may be what you are after....

I don't personally use this album although the company is very helpful......

    Thanks Peter,

Do you know if they would supply to the general public by any chance? I thought naively that I could do a medium size reportage album for around £100 but all the overlay sheets really bump up the cost.

I'm going to go to Calumet & see what they have in the way of Spicer albums , but I also saw this album from Denis Wright - http://www.denis-wright.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=267
Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the quality of these albums? I thought it was a bit nicer than the mock leather ones...

Denis Wright are a long established company that make some good albums of nice quality.

I believe that Middlewall will deal with the general public.
