Wedding and Honeymoon with children?

kaz9274, 14 August, 2009 at 19:18 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi Ladies just after some advice on what others have put in place to keep young children occupied all day during the wedding?

We are still at early stages of planning but this has been on my mind, my 2 sons will be 2 and 5!!

I really dont like the idea of leaving them to go on honeymoon either. We want to go on a exotic/luxury holiday but not sure where kids would be welcome.

We are thinking of going to America but we have already been so it would all be about the kids.

A silly idea................well maybe not that silly actually, I suggested the in-laws come with us so we could go to L.A, Las Vegas or a cruise for a few days just the 2 of us then take the kids to Disney when we get back while the in-laws go away for a few days but not convinced this is a good idea but we get the best of both worlds this way. x

I guess it depends on whether they like the idea. I wouldn't go on holiday with my parents let alone my mil! ?

Sorry I'm not going to be much use but I think LA and Disney (Florida) are on opposite coasts in the US so you'd end up doing quite a bit of travelling if you did that way. New York mightn't be quite as much? Aside from that, while LA is fun it doesn't strike me necessarily as a honeymoon detination.

How about taking your kids for a week to spain or somewhere like that, then have a nice week just you and your H somewhere and leave the kids. I think if you take the kids first they'll not notice you're missing! x

Depends on your idea of exotic but Cyprus is lovely and very child friendly. We took our 3 year old up there in October and everybody made a big fuss of her which she loved.

Totally understand and know what you mean about not fancying the idea of going on honeymoon without them, I couldn't do that either!

Well we've decided that we're going to go on a mini moon for one to two nights without our kids (they will be 9 and 5 for wedding) and for entertainment we're hoping to hire a bouncy castle (venue permitting) or maybe a ballon/puppet person. Also would like to set up a drawing table too, need to book a venue first and see how flexible they are.

Maybe your venue could give you some ideas?

We're hoping to go to New York for a mini moon and then go on holiday all together when we get back.

As for keeping them occupied, OLL had some fab pics up recently for children, I will see if I can find them again... can only find this one, sorry

I love this and will probably do this for mine - give them a camera and a list of things that they need to take pics of.

We got married on 13 June and took our 3yr old daughter on honeymoon with us to the Domincan Republic. Stayed in the Riu hotels at Puerto Plata, and it was great! There was a small kids club, but she was too young for it, but there was a childrens pool and play parks.

The 5 hour time difference meant that when it got really hot she was ready for a nap, so we put her in the buggy in the shade for a couple of hours and then we got to relax. The Dominicans also really loved kids! Everywhere we went it was "hola baby!", she thought they all watched Dora lol.

It was a great holiday and I'd recommend it to anyone. BUT we're also having a mini moon in the autumn. A couple of days in London as we were given a Vinopolis tour as a wedding pressie.
