Wedding Band (Music)

Sarah Hennessy, 2 September, 2014 at 17:25 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi Everyone,

We've pretty much agreed on the band that we want to play at our wedding and we're a long way down the line with booking them. Today I emailed and said I was going to pay the deposit shortly so could I have a copy of the T&Cs or contract and they said they don't issue either T&Cs or Contracts....

Have your bands provided these? To me it's essential that every supplier would provide a contract or T&Cs - I mean what if they didn't show up - I would have nothing to prove I had booked them.

I really don't want to lose this band but I feel it's too risky not to have something from them.

What do you guys think?

It doesn't sound very professional. Are they an established group or a bunch of friends who play together?

If you really want them I would stress how important you feel it is for both you and them. Ours had everything from set up times to whether or not they were permitted to eat our evening food.

Don't pay any money without a receipt at least, and if thy don't want to issue a formal contract maybe send an email covering everything you feel is important and make sure you get a reply with agreement from them as a form of informal contract.

    Hi Sarah,

It's great that you've chosen a band you like, there's quite a large choice out there!

I would say that the most important thing is to have a contract. This is even more important than a deposit.

All bands should offer a contract which is signed by all parties. Unfortunately there are some horror stories that you do hear about and it makes sense to be as protected as possible. If they are refusing to offer a contract will your band have PLI or be fully PAT tested? Your venue will require this and potentially will not allow your band to perform.

    Good luck.

    James.

Thanks both - yes they are a well established band who have been around a long time. They play weddings every weekend from April to Oct and also very well known bars in London. Hence the reason I'm so surprised. All our other suppliers are providing us with Contracts or T&Cs to agree on before payment.

What is even more worrying is that obviously other couples haven't asked them for this paperwork in the past....

Can you draw up your own contract and send it through to them for signature?

It's a bit odd especially if they play at commercial venues.
