Wedding Bouquet Help

Womanonabudget, 5 September, 2016 at 14:05 Posted on Planning 0 4

So.... do you think that my bridesmaids bouquets should have the colour of their dresses included?

I was just planning to go with a couple of vintage colours for them, perhaps pale pink and cream which is in keeping with the wedding theme.

My bridesmaids haven't chosen their dresses yet and I have told them that they can choose what colours they wish to wear (within reason lol).

My florist said that I should have the two basic colours in the bouquets but I must also include the colour each b'maid is wearing in their individual bouquets. I think that this is old fashioned and I didn't think that it really mattered. Felt a little intimidated and came away questioning my original idea!

What have you all done????

?

Well I didn't have any bridesmaids however if I was having bridesmaids in various colours I would either wait and see what colour scheme you end up with and chose something that goes with them all or I would chose a neutral flower that goes with them all. I wouldn't give bridesmaids all different colour flowers. The only pic of this I have seen that i like and thought worked was a couple who had bridesmaids all in the same dress but different colours for a wedding abroad. One wore pink, one orange etc and they each carried a small posey of Gerbera in the colour they wore. So pink had pink, orange had orange etc and it looked nice. But there were no other flowers it was more a spray with the corresponding colour ribbon trying it together.

I agree, it seems rather 1980s.

I am having a tropical bouquet, with purple orchids, calla lilies, birds of paradise, red protea, gingers etc. My BMs are having pink orchids with white calla lillies.

I don't think you need to pick up the colours of the BM dresses in the flowers. For one thing, what if you can't get a decent match? If it were me, I'd either stick to the "base" colours or maybe introduce a complementary colour if I felt it needed something extra.

I think to have flowers on 2 colours, and then bridesmaid dresses in another colour again could be a little much unless you are tying in the flowers with the dresses somehow (which is probably why your florist suggested including flowers of these colours). Are the bridesmaids going to be wearing the same colour as each other, or is each individual BM choosing their own colour? If it's the latter, I personally think it might be too many colours and might look a bit too mismatched.

If the flowers are 2 colours and the BM dresses are all the same though, then it could be ok

My bridesmaids are in blue and the bouquets are pinks and ivory colours. There is no blue in the bouquet but the ribbon around the bouquet could be blue but not sure yet. My florist didn't mention anything about having to include the dress colour in the bouquet.

My bridesmaids were in navy and their bouquets were white gyp. The flower girl had blue flowers but her dress was mostly white with blue details, so I didn't want her flowers to blend into the white of her dress.

Surprisingly, nobody questioned why the bridesmaids didn't have their dress colour in their flowers...!
