Wedding breakfast - menu options...not all that appealing

cherrybloom, 27 January, 2013 at 20:23 Posted on Planning 0 19

So I have found the venue, but the menu's are not that appealing, some of my guests palate is not that sophisticated and I think the food is aimed at those that probably appreciate the finer things in life when it comes to food, more so than my family and friends..

What to do, make suggestions or make do?

Can you list the options? Does your venue offer a menu tasting?

Can you list what they are? Is there anyway you could mix and match some of the components?

Is the menu really for those who "appreciate the finer things " or has the venue just dressed it up and named things so it appear this way .

One wedding we went to had something like ... peppered beef stew topped with a puff pastry lid ....it was good old steak pie and was fabulous !

Hi Clarehj, I've decided to go with somewhere are else based on logistics more than anything else, if I could take OGGS to there it would be fab!!

So here is an example of the canapes: apologies if it doesn't seem that sophisticated to anyone else but I'm a little basic:

    • Anchovy and Olive Pissaladiers
    • beetroot tartare
    • quails eggs wrapped in smoke salmon with caviar

    As for starters e.g:

    • Terrine of smoked salmon in curried butter cucumber and mint yoghurt, Toast
    • Soused Mackerel with marinated vegetables and orange dressing

Just an example but it takes ages to type out cos its all so fancy, is it cos I is common?

I am thinking of just asking for my own thing nothing to basic a little but easier to know what you are eating!!

Lol, now I feel like a complete commoner the fact I don't eat eggs probably doesnt help. The main meal is fine its just these bits, I mean I have folk from the US and Yorkshire coming...they want fish and chips and fried chicken Lol!

    Please note:

This post is not meant to offend any US or Yorkshire people abroad ir here or related or the rest..

Or ask if they'll do something else if it bothers you - our venue have agreed to something that wasn't on the list - we just had to ask!

Can I have the quail eggs, smoked salmon and caviar please! Mmmm! Oh, and I live in Yorkshire ?

On a more serious note, if the main courses are fine I see no harm in asking if they can do something a little more basic for the starter.

Although it does seem a shame, ha!

Maybe your wedding will be the turning point in some of your guest's life where they find out they have an unpolished gem of a chef's palate! I would just get what you want to eat, because at weddings you'll never be able to please everyone

Some caterers will do what you want so if you ask them they may be able more "simple" food. I'm gunna have to ask mine for garlic bread, tomato and basil soup, roast lamb, veggie lasagne, apple crumple and something else.

Haha I think it sounds lovely, but then I did have to google Pissaladiere.

As somebody suggests, if you say what you are looking for, they may be able to adjust.

What venue did you go for in the end? Give us a little flash!

Also, Funky, i know this is random, but I remembered you saying your Latvian boy was fussy with food, but didnt want the rest of your guests to suffer the same blandness. My place did a slightly different menu for me, just because the bride and groom get special treatment. Worth asking for you?

Or, just get them to change the word Pissaladiere to pizza (which is essentially what it is), and remove the word "quail" as that seems to put them off. Nobody minds a hen egg(!)

    ;o)
