Wedding cake

rusticbride90, 15 February, 2016 at 21:34 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi everyone,

This might sound really thick but if you're not serving your cake as dessert what do you do with it? We are having afternoon tea for our wedding meal and dont really want to serve our cake as well as all the other sweet stuff.

If you dont have your cake as a dessert what are you meant to do with it? We dont want to pay hundreds for a cake that will be wasted so have been looking into false teir cakes..then no wastage! Has anyone else done this? How did it work out?

I've also found an amazing macaroon cake which I absolutley love, it has one teir of sponge on the top then a tower of macaroons underneath. This is probably our preferred idea so far as its a bit quirky and different and we want to have a put a bit of a twist on the traditional wedding things. Anyone had one of these or similar? Or anyone had a quirky cake which isnt the traditional iced teir cake? Would love to see some pics ?

You could send out a slice of cake to each guest in a nice box the day after the wedding, as a wedding favour/thank you?

I know someone who just got married and they did the same thing, and sent out thank you for attending notes with it.

I like the sound of the macaroon cake!

Maybe have the cake as part of the afternoon tea? So it's not extra on top of the rest of the cakes and stuff, but incorporated into it. Could always go backwards and start things off with cutting the cake first. Or if you're having an evening do cut the cake when everyone's arrived so everyone can have a bit.

We're having an afternoon ceremony, and were going for tea and cakes when we got back to the hall to keep everyone going between lunch and an evening buffet, and would have cut the cake as part of that. A change of plans means an evening meal at a pub now, either sit down or buffet, so I'm not sure we'll even go for a cake now as I don't know when it would fit in. If we do, it will be a naked cake, just a jam sponge with berries to decorate

We served ours with coffee/tea after the meal (after dessert too). It meant people could choose to eat it during the speeches or keep it if they wished.

We're doing similar to Kizzi10000 - afternoon ceremony followed by cake and champagne/orange juice toast and then a little gap before we meet for pre-dinner drinks to allow guests to check into their rooms and freshen up etc.

Thanks everyone some great ideas there... i think we might give it as a favour as I didnt have any favour ideas anyway. That way it would definitely work with the macaroon cake as could give the macaroons as favours Smiley smile

This is the one I want I totally fell in love as soon as I saw it.. and my OH isnt fussed what we have so decision made. Will change the macaroon colours depending on the colour scheme we choose but thinking of neutrals anyway so even this one could work.

Ours will be served as a dessert to evening food, so a lot of people will be getting 2 desserts that day!

Hello! I have just been taking a look at the forums and came across your thread. I am a newly registered supplier on hitched.co.uk and wanted to offer my advice or expertise as you've mentioned you are looking to have a tiered macaron/cake combo for your wedding day! Brilliant choice Smiley smile

If you want to serve it on the day have you considered a cheese cake so there is an alternative to sweet? We got one and a cake for our UK party but both were served as dessert. The cheese cake went down a lot better as more people wanted savoury. If you Google cheese wedding cakes there are loads of ideas
