wedding colours - how did you decide??

mummy2hannah, 19 July, 2009 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hey everyone!

Well like the title says, how did you choose your wedding colours? Since planning this wedding I've been looking at choc brown & pink....but I've always really loved burgundy & ivory as wedding colours.

Baring in mind that the wedding reception will be in a plain hall...totally blank canvas to decorate and it's going to be quite an informal do. H2B doesnt want to know anything about the planning!

TIA x x x x

I didn't have a colour scheme until yesterday. I bought my bridesmaids dresses and i just went for the ones we all liked and now that is my colour scheme.

As for your OH, imo i think he's getting off too lightly... make him get involved! Even if it's just to say the typical 'yes dear'. x

    Hiya,

I just went for my favourite colour - purple ?

Going for a deep/Royal purple and Ivory - not everyone is convinced with my choice, but I love it! ?

Maybe go to a fabric shop and put some shades together - I love your burgundy and ivory choice though!

My cousin is going for brown (I can't remember the shade) and hot pink flowers - its a lovely combination!

I figured that a lot of the wedding will be about what I want so I let OH choose his favourite colour - Spurs blue! I don't mind it at all though I would have probably picked a sage green. We saw the venue dressed up in ivory & sage green with lots of gypsophilia & it looked fab.

So anyway the scheme is a dark blue with ivory & silver thrown in too. I want lots of sparkle!

We're getting married at Xmas time, well Nov, so I chose red & black with me in white.

If I was having a summer wedding, I prob would have chose something more summery but since my H2B chose the date, it had to be something seasonal. x

I had originally wanted burgundy and ivory but my best friend got married this year and had those colours so i asked OH what colours he likes and we have gone for a royal blue which was inspired by a bass guitar i had bought him for his birthday a few weeks before!

This is what I had too. I had some green too in the flowers and venue.

Purple is my fav colour so choosing was easy

I think our choice will be down to which venue we decide on....

Big Top Tent - bright colours...yellows, sky blue and maybe some reds,

Calico Canvas Marquee - muted Summer colours (think wishy washy seaside!)

Barn - Whites, corn yellows and robins egg blue (maybe with some apricot tones too)

    Hi Cheska

I've been thinking about greenery with the flowers but can't make my mind up! Have you any photos you can share of your big day? ?

I would have gone for something like purple, but my cousin is having it now. We're probably having aqua blue and pinks, and if we go for the teaparty probably some tones of red and other light blues too.

Thank you everyone for your replies ?

Yes i did ask H2B and got the usual "my only job is to turn up and try to say the right name" lol...he's being serious but obv in a jokey way! tbh it nearly turns into an argument when I try to force him for opinions. So I think I'll leave it upto the bridesmaid, if they'd rather wear burgandy or brown/pink dresses and just work around that!

    Thanks again everyone xxx

I chose chocolate brown and cream, we love the colours together. We did chose the cake before the colour scheme which surprise surprise is a chocolate wedding cake. I love the combination of chocolate brown and pink, seeing our hotel is bright bl**dy pink I didnt want to over do it. lol

I chose my fav colour - turquoise and then looked at some colour combos online to match others to it - ended up with a dark shade of turqouise, lime green and yellow- thinking of adding something girly to it like pink or orange...

it works well to chose one and then go from there. there are loads of pics and ideas out there, also look on Flicker for mood boards.

Hi, I'm not getting married for a couple of years yet but it hasn't stopped me talking incessantly to dp about colour schemes etc! We're getting married in the Spring time (probably late March) so I want nice, gentle springy colours. Currently I'm somewhere between pale blue or sage green. I have a real thing aboun sunflowers though and have always dreamed of having loads of them at my wedding, so I'll have to find a colour to complement that!
