In previous world cup years we have had some unhappy brides having to share their day with a widescreen tv. Are any brides with dates across this period aware of this possible issue, and if so, what are they doing about it?....

@Kharv - Of course! Dragged poor OH to Charlton at the weekend and made him stand in the cold for three hours to watch us finally getting back on track!! Am sure there have been some smiles in your house this past week with some great results.

I often point out I'm the favourite child as I'm the only one who wasn't born on a Saturday and didn't interfere with football ?

Sorry - have dragged the thread OT a bit!

We thought long and hard before booking our wedding as we are getting married on July 12, 2014, so it will be the night for the 3rd place game. However - We researched the schedule and timing, and it seems like the game will start at 7pm so by that time our meal and speeches should just be finishing and there will be a lull while the dj and some entertainment we have will be starting. Hopefully the game will end at 9 or 930, so it will all work out. As well, I dont think we have a huge fan base invited to the wedding anyways.

Like someone else said, it may just make the day more exciting depending on whos playing. As well, it may mean another gathering the next day if people want to watch the final. Plus some of my family from Canada are coming over so it will be interesting for them to experience the fever of it

It can be a big issue, particularly with brides, in 2010 one of my brides was in tears because someone had 'smuggled' in an iPad, despite her requests not to do so.

Get your hotel / venue to turn off the wifi if possible or maybe allow it just for the match.

This would have been a huge problem for us, both our families are very much into football! Amazingly I didn't even think about it being an international year, although as we're November it shouldn't be an issue.

I have just double checked with my MOH as they have just booked their wedding and luckily they have gone for the weekend after *phew*, that would have been an epic fail! As much as we're football fans I wouldn't appreciate people sat watching it when we are paying so much to provide a great day.

Just waiting tentatively for the prem fixtures, if Man City are playing then I know minds will be elsewhere. The ideal scenario would be City v Liverpool on the Saturday, so all our families can get together for a bit of banter before the wedding on Sunday!!

My date is clashing with it- me and OH are not footie fans at all so we didn't even consider it. One friend who is now based in Brazil will be working throughout the whole thing on the World Cup itself, so he probably won't be able to attend. If we'd been more aware I might have tried to avoid it but oh well! These things happen. We won't be having screens at all, or making any kind of concession to it. To be fair though we only have a couple of footy mad friends and I think they care enough about us getting married to spend a day away from the TV. I'll let them check Twitter as long as they do it without me seeing Smiley winking

We are gettin married on the 12th July 2014, a day before the Final!

However i have no worries of England getting that far so im not particulaly stressed about it lol! IF they do, however, and the date it somehow brought forward a day, i'll definatly be putting a hugeeeee tv somewhere in the room, even if its during the reception lol. I can think of nothing better then having a few drinks and good food, watching the football with people i love! xx

Another note, if england do get to the final and people do go away for it then thats fine, its a once in a life time opportunity. After organising our engagement party i have come to realise that our day is not the most important thing in other people lives

    xx
