Sounds lovely, tartan is very 'in' at the moment......or as an alternative they could maybe wear ivory tea length dresses with the royal Stewart sashes around the waist, and possibly shoes to match? xx

Honestly, I think full-on tartan dresses will be a bit too much, even if they are all Scottish! I think a sash in the tartan, or maybe ribbons on the flowers etc would be a more subtle touch.

I agree with this, a nice dress with a sash or ribbins etc would be better I think Smiley smile

A sash would be nice or you could have thistle in the bouquets and just have the dresses in a colour to match the tartan?

Hello and welcome to hitched- not sure this is a dilemma as such!

I think full on tartan will be too much in my opinion, I would much rathe pick out a colour from the tartan and go with that on the bm dresses and then perhaps have tartan shoes or perhaps some sort of hairpiece?

Sashes would be better and maybe tie in the flower colours

Thank you so much for your ideas, i think your all absolutely right i decided it would look much better with a solid colour so i thought black would stand out really well with red shoes and tartan in the bouquets i just need to convince my other half that black is best because i dont want 3 different colours so me in white and the groom in the red tartan kilt and bridesmaids in black with red would be best what do you all think

I don't personally like black in weddings, so I am more with your OH, sorry!

What about going for green-ish grey and compromising? Would you and him be ok with it? Smiley smile

I like black bm dresses. I also think white/ivory could work - if you give them a coloured sash and they're in 50 style dresses that would look lovely.

    Hi

My OH and his 2 brothers are wearing Stewart red tartan kilts - so we're in the same boat here.

I went to a ball when he wore his kilt and I wore a light grey/silver dress from Monsoon which went well.

For our wedding I'm thinking lilac bridesmaid dress (along the lines of thistle or heather colour), with thistles in the bouquets/table centrepieces with white/cream roses (I'm from Yorkshire and we're getting married on Yorkshire day) with maybe some red tartan ribbon amongst the flowers. Also having tartan table runners I think with white napkins or maybe napkins with thistles on which I've seen online.

Let me know what you decide. We haven't definitely chosen lilac until we actually go bridesmaid dress shopping - but we're taking the kilt with us when we do!

My partner is wearing the Welsh Jones tartan kilt (it's a mixture of blues and green)and regelia on our wedding day , the groomsmen are all wearing traditinal suits and they all all ahving a matching dark navy srunch tie so they all tie in togethner and the bridesmaids are wearing matching floor length dark navy dresses.

I would go for the bridemaids in a block colour a well rather than full on tartan

I really like black BM dresses. I think done right it can look really classy.

I think my brother and his fiancée are going for this as they're having a black tie wedding (I think it's an American thing?? He lives in the US & it sounds more common there).

We have done several weddings with black BM dresses(they can wear them again, especially if they are cocktail length)

I also had a bride in july who had pride of bannockburn tartan and she chose the blue from the tartan for the BM dresses and it looked fab! These were her flowers with plenty of thistles and tartan ribbon! I think accents of tartan are better than too much.?

Lol, every Scottish bride I have met (including myself) is having cream roses and thistles! My OH isn't wearing a kilt as he wants a new suit but he will be wearing my grandfather's Ancient MacDonell of Glengarry tie. I am having my maids in the dark green of the tartan with ribbons as sashes.
