AJB2013, 3 January, 2013 at 10:21 Posted on Planning 0 56

Hello please help

What are everyone budgets for their wedding dress? I keep thinking about how much the dresses I have seen cost & that you only wear it for one day.

I've seen a few dresses I like but then there are all the cost of accessories too, what are your budgets ladies or if you have found your dress what did you end up spending????

Im getting married in september & I will be ordering a dress by the end of the month Smiley smile

Thankyou x

I had a budget of £1000 for my dress but managed to get one in the sale for £400!

You have to look around, compare shops to each other, some girls got shops to throw in accessories along with it!

If you don't mind second hand preloved is good, and keep an eye out for a sample sale in bride shops, that or the highstreet BHS have a lovely new range, as to the likes of monsoon, Very and places like that!

I had around £1500 in mind, didn't want to go mad. The dress I ordered was £1600, but they threw a £300 veil in free of charge and also £400 worth of alterations. It's worth asking what the dress shop can do for you. I will splurge a bit on shoes though - they're my downfall!

Preloved has some amazing dresses on there, but watch out for whether the dresses have been altered to suit people's heights etc. House of Fraser also have some lovely ones.

Even though you only wear it for one day, you'll be looking at the photographs forever.

My mom has offered to buy my dress and has given me a budget of £2000. I dont think Ill spend all that on just the dress tho as I will want to add veil etc and treat myself to some extra special shoes!! being tiny I need height and comfort ?

Plus not being used to spending a lot on things I probably wont know how to spend that much money!!xx

I originally had a budget of £800 however fell in love with a dress for £995 and got my veil for £40 online. I managed to buy my shoes on Ebay (jimmy choo) and saved a small fortune so I made the money back that way.

I have a maximum budget of £500 for the dress. I am going to visit the Wedding Dress Factory Outlet when I start looking, as they have a huge collection that range between £150 to £400. I thought it would also be a good place to go to get an idea of the different styles to see what suits me. I am also happy to buy second hand, so if there's a dress that I really like but it's out of budget, I shall be searching sites such as Preloved and Gumtree ?

    HI

I budgeted 1000 for my dress but knew I would go over if I seen one I liked that was worth more, in the end my dress was £980 but I spent £1625 in total with alterations, veil and side tiara so its worth remembering there may be extra costs involved. My alterations are capped at £250 so I know it won't go over that. I'd also check different shops, I went to a boutique dress shop in Glasgow city centre and saw the same dress as the one I ended up with and it was a couple hundred more than what I paid at the shop I went to in Edinburgh.

Enjoy dress shopping when it comes!

My friend got hers in a sale for ex hire dresses, think it was £900 when in the bridal shop, but she paid £300 and plans to resell it. It was beautiful with lots of detailing, so I would second the preloved idea.

    I budgeted £2k for a dress.

With accessories (a bolero for day and a belt for the evening) and veil, it's going to cost £2700.

    Ooooops.

My mum is buying mine. Originally, I'd budgeted £1000 but quickly realised I couldn't find anything I like for that. The one I ordered in the end was £1550 but I managed to get it for £1450. Obviously, that doesn't include any alterations and I want to get some straps put on to it, so that will push the price up. Veil was £55 online and shoes were about £30. Not got my tiara yet. Wearing my mum's earrings as my something borrwed, and my mum wants to buy me a nice necklace as a wedding present. Guessing about £2000 in total.

I budgeted £1000 and got mine in a sample sale half price at £925. Trying to save money on hoes £27 on ebay and veil £44, jewellery handed down through family so I am 'just' in budget.

When I tried the dress on in Sept it needed no alterations- hoping that is still the case- just need to get rid of the Christmas belly!

I visited about 5 shops and tried on loads, in the end I was probably looking at spending about £1050 plus shoes and veil etc. However, popped into Monsoon last week and found my perfect dress for £120 in the sale. I hadn't bothered going in before as their dresses don't look all that flattering in the photos, but it's gorgeous on, moves beautifully and is 100% silk, unlike a lot of the more expensive dresses I tried that were definitely not natural or high quality fabric.

I found the idea of spending 1000s on a dress a struggle, I just couldn't see how it was worth it for just one day, so for me this budget dress is perfect!

Unfortunately it was 400 over budget but my mum decided she wanted to be the one to buy my dress and she and my step dad brought it there and then. I love them and i love my dress

I'm budgeting £1500 for the dress, any accessories, shoes and alterations. Kind of scared to go dress shopping when the time comes, because i don't want to fall in love with one to find it's way above budget!

I budgeted £300 but ended up spending £450, plus I may need some alterations.

I got mine from a normal wedding dress shop; they usually stock less expensive designs in addition to the £1000+ dresses.

I found my dream dress, then budgetted so I could have it (not sure that's the right way round - oops!)!

Dress: £1500; shoes £70; veil £20 (was £120 but the bridal shop gave me a £100 accessories voucher when I orderd my dress).

Good luck finding your dream gown!

I budgeted £1200 and paid £850. Found a great lady who sells on brand new (not sample) dresses, which are un-altered and never worn. She acts as a agent for ladies who sell their dresses for whatever reason, and Im so happy as I got me dream dress for £450 less than shop prices!

We budgeted £500 for my whole outfit, however I went to a bridal shop and ended up loving a bress that was £1200. I'm lucky as mother paid half because she loved it too. If she hadn't I wouldn't have got it. Definitely see what places can do, my shop wanted to throw in the veil that was £160 but I have seen veils I like for about £40 so managed to get 10% off the dress instead. Stand yoy ground though, as they were reluctant to start with. Shoes I want to spend no more than fifty, not thought about anything else yet

Hmm, wedding dress....budget....what's all that about then?

Seriously, I knew I wanted to blow out on a dress. So I did. I didn't care that I only wore it for one day (well, 12 hours even). It was my money though, not from a total wedding budget. Boy still has no idea how much it cost. I saved up my money and made sure that I wasn't going to feel even remotely guilty about what is now a family car's worth of lace sitting in my wardrobe.

You have to go with what you're comfortable with and how important it is to you. For me, it was high up the list of priorities. However, my wedding ring only cost about £20 and I am slightly horrified when people talk about spending hundreds or thousands on these items. Horses for courses.

Ladies - I know how much you spend on your dress and it upsets and frustrates me so much when I see washed out detail in some wedding photographers photos.

Like this when you should be getting this

When looking at photographers work ask yourself if the dress is showing the detail that it should

I managed to get £1200 worth of dress for £260. I spent £90 on alterations. My shoes where £20, my tiara about £30 and my veil the same. Earings were from accesorize so cant have been much more than £10.

Won second best dress last year so cant have done badly on it!

I didn't think I was a tight person but it genuinely makes me feel sick how much some of you are spending on dresses! Sorry if that sounds judgemental, just genuinely shocked?

Mine is 300 for the dress, belt, bolero and two petticoats from Vivien of Holloway. In fact the petticoats cost more than the dress. If budget wasn't an issue I'd spend a grand on a Candy Anthony, but I would resell it after and feel crap about it cos its so much money.

I had a budget of £500 in my head but I ended up spending double that, just on the dress. That's because I tried on a dress which I forgot to check the price of first -typical? I loved the dress so much that my mum offered to pay the extra. I spent an additional £150 ish on accessories.

Me too! Each to their own but to me spending £450 on my dress was a massive extravagance. I can't imagine wearing £1500 of fabric for just one day! But as someone else said, it's horses for courses. I would gladly spend that £1500 on a holiday whereas others may see that as a waste.

I had a loose idea of around £1500 in my head but probably would have gone above that a bit if I'd needed to.

As it turned out my dress was £1000. I spent about £200 on accessories and alterations then another £325 on shoes.

Like Footlong said, it's horses for courses.

I'm not getting into debt with what I am spending on the dress, me and mum are buying it together (it's our little project). I tried on 'cheaper' dresses, although the cheapest one I tried on (not intentionally) was £970, so still a lot for a dress. And unfortunately, I just fell in love with mine.

It's a lot of money but if people want to spend a lot on a dress, that's their call...no reason for you to feel sick about it ?

I set a max of £1500 because i knew from when my sister got married that the style of dress i wanted was expensive then and that was over 4 years ago. dresses have only gone up since then. My dress is £1100 in most dress sjops but due to shopping around i have managed to find a dress shop that can get it for me for £850 so i'm thrilled with that price!
