Wedding Dress for under £500??

purpletaff, 17 January, 2011 at 22:55 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi there

I might sound like a cheapskate, but with 2 kids and a wedding paid for by ourselves I can't justify a huge wedding dress budget. Can anyone help me with cheaper end of the market designers?? Have seen some in BHS that I liked and also on the website of outlet place in Leicester, but unsure about fitting as I am short and an odd shape/size ;-)??? Had a reply from dress designer in MK so that's one option but need some experts out there to give me some other options xx

Thanks all

Marie xxxx ?

The best websites would be places like Preloved or landy bridal, even try Ebay.

    Good luck in your search.

Like other people have said, ebay, pre-loved etc. Also lots of shops sell of their ex-sample dresses for under £500. If you find a particular dress you want but dont want to pay a full 'new dress' prices, you could ask the shop if they would sell the sample one (if it's the right size). If you need a different size, you could try other stockists of the same designer and your bound to find one.

I recently had to do this as I we've had to move our wedding forward due to family illness, so had to find a dress for 6 weeks time. I already knew which dress i wanted so rang lots of shops and in the end got a real bargain so it's worth the effort!

lots of people on here have had replica dresses made in China for a fraction of the price and been very pleased with them, but i think you have to be careful which sites you use.

    Good luck with your search

Try Romantica of Devon this is the Designer my dress is by and it is stunning! No pics of it on the internet, mine is called Roma and cost £495. They have some lovely dresses and some cheaper than £500.

Nothing "cheapskate" at all about wanting to spend under £500 on a dress - plenty of options out there for you.

Just because someone spends £5000 (or more!) on a dress doesn't mean it's any nicer than yours, or they're going to have a better day, or more successful marriage, than those doing it on "sensible money" Smiley smile

I'm not a one for a typical white or ivory dress, or actual wedding dresses to be honest. The dress i am having for my wedding is actually a bridesmaids dress, but to me it's simple and pretty Smiley smile

It only cost me £150, and thats a strapless A-Line dress, crystal detail to bust, wrap (which i'm not using) and a pouch bag. I then bought a black satin bolero jacket from ebay, and luckily the black on the jacket, and the black on the dress are a perfect match Smiley smile xx

*my dress is from the bridesmaids collection from www.foreverbridals.com*

    Thanks to you all

Feeling a lot better now as was getting a bit bogged down with what should be the best part (well apart from the big day itself obviously!!!!) I am near Northampton so any ideas for local places would be fab xxx

    Enjoying these discussions already :-)

Depends what style you are after? Mine is vintage style and cost £260 on Ebay and a friend of mine loves big pouffy merangue dresses and found hers on ebay too for £300. Hers was worn one and mine was a sample so only used for a fashion show! If you have the time then there is plenty to be found you just need to look!

    Good luck!

    Another suggestion for Ebay here.

I risked a Chinese seller, and my dress was perfect. Not a traditional wedding dress kinda gal, so worked for me, but they also did "proper" wedding dresses.

It cost a mahoosive £30 (actually £29.96, but still... )
