Wedding dress hoops

Ellensmummy, 27 June, 2016 at 20:47 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi ladies,

This may be a silly question but I have been wondering how bridal hoops work. I have an a line dress and have been thinking about one to help hold the material away from legs/feet to make walking a bit easier as opposed to adding volume.

Is this what they are/can be used for? I've never seen one in person let alone try on with a dress so wondered if anyone had any experience?

Thanks in advance! Xx

Mine gives my dress more oomph and does make it a bit easier to walk than having all the material around my feet.

My dress didnt need one, so cant give any first hand experience, but found these sites that might help:

My bridal store are lending me a hoop, I've got an a line dress too that didn't need any more volume, but the hoop like you says holds the material away from my legs so I can walk. You can't even tell that I'm wearing it from the outside but it's 10x easier to move in!

I think the purpose is as you say, but they obviously do increase the size outside slightly due to it all being pushed outwards a bit. I've seen mixed reviews, lots of people dont like them and consider them very old school. I like the idea, especially for a summer or abroad wedding. But some of the ones I tried made the dress a bit "swingy". You have to try them I think to see what your opinion is.

I think they do both - mine does at least. They come in different shapes so some will create more volume than others. Mine keeps my dress away from my legs which is half the reason I have one, but also because it took the dress out slightly, it brings it just off the floor so it saved alterations needing to be made to make it shorter. In general I feel so much more comfortable walking in my dress with the hoop.

If you want it to hold the dress away from your legs, in turn it kind of has to add volume to the dress as it is making it 'stick out' slightly more. With an a line dress I wouldn't think it would make much difference visually, I would say go for it Smiley smile

When trying on my dress last time it felt a bit flat. I wasn't convinced by hoop s somehow as it look like they might make sitting and standing next to people more difficult? I don't know though.

I I ordered a petticoat from a seller on etsy and it's great! So excited to try it on with my dress next time. Only disadvantage is that it won't keep fabric away from my legs as others have said.
