Wedding dress hunt

suzjackson, 2 September, 2010 at 20:34 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hello fellow brides to be

I am needing a bit of help on where to look for a few dress which I have seen, Im getting married next August on a beach and so after trailing through many dresses I have decided that I want somthing more floaty and feminine rather than glam and formal (as I orginally wanted). I have found a few designers and style which I think would be perfect however they are very expensive so I have decided to look for a preowned dress. I have tried a few sites - preloved, sell my wedding dress and ebay but I am having little or no luck in finding THE dress that Im after. If anyone knows of any other sites, sample sales, pre wed brides who are looking to sell any of the following styles I would really appreciate the heads up.

Styles I am after are-

David Fielden: 4611

Kula Tsurdiu: Grecian silk tulle or grace kelly glamour

Lyn Ashworth: Fiona

Jenny Packham: Bouddicia, petra, elizabeth, delphine

I am also open minded to any other styles by the above designers. I am a size 8 and am 5"7 but am willing to buy larger and have it adjusted if needs be.

Please please please help me out brides to be.

Thanks

Suz xxx

Do you like this? I think this dress is stunning and seems to be what type you like?

Struggling to find anyone selling the other dresses. Would you consider getting somewhere like landy bridal etc to make it for you?

Have you considered the forever yours informal range?? I am having a very relaxed summer wedding and searched for 'beach' dresses, I fell in love with a few of the FY's dresses, very grecian looking and floaty (and quite cheap!!)

sorry picture is huge, but these 2 i love!!! am considering not having the flower shoulder strap, I tried that dress on and its so flattering, really pulls you in and looks really informal but still gorgeous! I have found these dresses between £250 and £565

My advice - Dont find a style on the internet and set your heart on it - i did that and when i tried them on in real life they looked rubbish!

If you are after a floaty beachy number then try the bridal section in Coast and Monsoon - if i was getting married on a beach i would go for one of their numbers - they are aboutr 200 quid upwards and are brilliant quality.

I have to agree, I love the look of these style dresses but when I tried them on they looked like old lady's night dresses and looked horrible on me! They're lovely but just didn't suit me, so don't fall in love with a picture of a dress!

    Hi Suz

Have you considered having one made?

I was tearing my hair out trying to find my perfect dress within my budget. I'd always wanted to have one made and rang a local dressmaker who was very rude and told me three months wasn't long enough to have one made and that I may as well just go to Debenhams. I was in tears after that conversation and emailed another dressmaker as a last ditch attempt. She emailed straight back and calmed me down, I went to see her and she quoted me £480 incl. materials.

My dress is a tea-length style in duchess satin and my dressmaker is fabulous.

My advice to you would be to find some local dressmakers and arrange to meet them to discuss your dress. Avoid boutique wedding shops as they'll charge you an arm and a leg. My dressmaker works from home making bridal and prom dresses, she has done for years and she was able to show me other dresses she's working on.

Rather than being made to measure, she's actually made it to FIT me - pinning it each time I go so it literally fits like a glove.

I would recommend it to anyone - if you live in the North East I'd be happy to recommend her to you.

    Good luck x x x x

    Hiya

the one with the strap is forever yours style 310102, I really didnt like it in the picture, and would never had purposely tried it on but when I went into the shop the lady brought it out and it was so nice on, a lovely fit and as its a corset back really flattering...the flower strap is only sewn on so can easily come off..I just think id be limited with jewellery etc if I had the strap??I found this in a few shops that stock FY, and seen it for £250 and £365

I tried it on in Jollifes in Marlow Bucks

the other one is also forever yours style 39109 and i am trying it on thursday with the other one to compare..will let you know what its like!! I have seen it for £325 and £460-the more expensive shop said they will knock 15% off as they cant price match..

the FY website has a list of uk stockists but I just googled and called LOADS of shops!

    xx

I thought of another one i tried on its this by kelsey rose
it is i think technically a bm dress as it comes in loads of colours, but also in ivory it was about £125 in the shop i tried it on and believe me looks SOOOO much nicer in real life than on that pic!!! it is quite long and the lady said she could alter it for me so that I still have a slight puddle train at the back as I didnt want it all the one length......x
