Wedding dress shopping question...

Miss-november, 15 July, 2013 at 20:12 Posted on Planning 0 12

Evening all,

I have my first shopping appointment for my wedding dress tomorrow and was wondering what people would advise to wear. Also, i know its silly but I had a baby 9 weeks ago and even though I am pretty much back to my old shape, im feeling self conscious about my post baby tummy! Nervous!

I went on Saturday and I wore normal knickers and a strapless bra with clothes on top obviously. You will end up in your underwear so what you wear on top doesn't matter. I waned a dress which I could wear a bra with so that's why I wore strapless although at one point I took it off to try on a different dress which was lovely but not for me.

Don;t be self concious, if you have snapped back that fast you must be incredibly proud of yourself! Well done!

I only had thongs so went out and bought new knick-knocks with full bum coverage!! My bum did seem to want to get into the ladies faces, so I was glad I had gathered it all in. I also wore a nude strapless bra but you could easily wear a normal one and drop the straps down if your bazoongas are currently in full flight! ;-)

In some shops, the lady took the dress, puddled it on the floor, made a space in the bottom so I could step in and onto the floor not onto a load of netting, and let me balance by leaning on her a little bit, and then she helped pull it up and helped me wriggle into it, then did it up at the back.

In other shops, the lady handed me the dress and let me get on with it, so I think it depends on the shop a bit!

Relax and enjoy it because this to me was the best bit of all the wedding planning! Don't worry over it, they are very used to getting girls of all shapes and sizes into dresses.

I'm the same self conscious wise, have flabby bits and loads of stretch marks that my 10lb baby left me with unfortunately :/

I'll probably wear some tummy tucking pants that go up high, the shorts type ones to cover up both tummy and bum Smiley smile
And maybe a strapless bra, or just tuck the straps in a normal one really.

Knows its a bit late but congrats on the new baby Smiley smile

In all the shops I went to, they let me get in the dress and then came in to do it up so I wouldn't worry too much - I just wore a plain strapless bra and some giant knickers?

Don't worry about your tummy at all - I've lost 4 1/2 stone so my tummy (and bum, and arms etc...) is like a blancmange, but I absolutely loved the whole dress trying on thing and no-one made me feel self-conscious. It has been my favourite part of wedding planning so far and I was almost disappointed when I actually found my dress (10 shops later!). I wore normal knicks with a strapless bra, I couldn't find a white/nude one that I liked so had to go with an old black one but it was hidden well in most dresses. Hope you have fun!

I was worried about my wobbly bits but it was the heat that got me in the end. I went dress shopping at the end of July (you know, when it stopped raining and we had five minutes of blistering heat before it was horrid again?) and was literally dripping sweat as I shoehorned myself into some thick layered taffeta number.

Is the shop you're going to air conditioned is what I'm really trying to say?

I wore a white strapless bra and white knickers, and clothes on top that I could easily take off and put back on. I was self conscious as well about my body but the women have seen a lot of women's bodies so I wouldn't worry about it.

Glad I seen this post as I hadn't thought about the heat, underwear to wear etc for trying on dresses!
I am going for my first appointment to try/look at dresses in 3 weeks, so will invest in some new underwear for it, I have a baby tum too, which I am trying to get rid of at present but will certainly need a little help from some spanx in the meantime! I only have black strapless bras and spanx so might buy some nude coloured ones for the dress shopping.

Hope you have lots of fun trying on the dresses today miss november Smiley smile

I wore black underwear. Obviously on the day I'll wear nude but my reasoning was I only had a clean black strapless bra and if the dress was so see through it probably wasn't the dress for me. Most of them were so thick/layered you couldn't see the bra anyway.

I wore a white strapless bra with a shaper dress thing attached to it. I felt like a sausage in a skin but it made the dresses slip on and hang nicely.

If you can i would definitely wear a strapless bra and some shaper knickers. Just because i think it makes you feel smoothed off. You do spend a fair bit of time in your pants trying to step into dresses so something covering is a must.

    Hi,

You could always wear some magic pull in knickers to give added confidence before you are back to normal. sounds as though you have done really well though already
