Wedding dress Tears!

Elodia, 25 November, 2012 at 18:30 Posted on Planning 0 29

Feeling really upset now, I can't find a dress. Its ridiculous! I'm annoying myself now never mind my mum and sister who have seen me in countless dresses! I have tried on so many beautiful dresses and none feel like the one. There just nice......I don't feel like WOW I love this dress... Did anyone else feel like this? Getting really fed up and I'm no longer enjoying the experience. And I keep been told I need to order in the next week or 2 max!!!! Arrrhhhhhh.......

    This sounds very familiar ....

I tried on over 30 dresses

What i wanted did nt really suit me and what fit well and did suit me I hated. I completely started again and tried on a range of everything even if I had tried on similar before.

I tried a lace fitted dress on (what i wanted but never really seemed right) and it was perfect think sometimes the fit and quality of each dress really varies even if they look very similar. Just try try try.

Maybe dont get to many opinions cause there is always one who will prefer something else.. its you that should love it

I had this too, you aren't alone! I tried on dresses that I hadn't considered, I was set on a lace fishtail but ended up with a satin A-line/ballgown. Not what I originally wanted but it looks so much better on and just feels right. I'd try on another style of dress.

The other thing you could try is sample sales as they might be dresses you haven't seen before?

Thanks girls, quick question? Did u know when you found the one! Or am I waiting for a feeling that might not happen? I'm so concerned because of the time scale!! :-(

It was the dress that I liked by far the most and couldn't imagine finding anything else I liked as much in my price range. With all the other dresses I wanted to try others on but once I put on mine I didn't....of course after 100 dresses over 4 months I might have just got tired of it all! Smiley smile

If the time line is stressing you can you not buy off the peg? You could still get alterations it'll give you more time. Secondhand/ samples could work well too?

Completely felt like this....they all just kind of merged into one for me - I went to 8 shops, probably tried on about 60 dresses I reckon. I was getting very stressed.

What I did in end was made a list in my head of things that I most wanted - for me it was fit & flare shape, with a big train & detail on the train.

I then found one that fit that description. To be honest I never felt like 'WOW THIS IS THE ONE' it just most closely matched what I wanted & I liked it so I ordered it. Don't get me wrong I completely panicked afterwards, but then tried on again & realised I did love it.

I think might be worth going on your own (I found other people opinions did confuse me), or make a list of exactly what you want in a dress & limit trying to those dresses, don't worry you'll get there. I honestly never thought I would either.

I never found 'the one'. I tried on loads as well and different sorts but none were perfect. I was being hassled by time too as I was 6 months away and told I had to make a decision soon or it wouldn't arrive in time. Found one that was close to perfect but way over budget.

We ended up at a second hand/sample shop and again tried on loads. Had decided on one there as couldn't face going hunting again, but when we tried it a few days later, it was too tight! The lady brought out another dress saying it had just come in, was designer etc etc - am pretty sure she just wanted to get rid of us by then as I had the kids too! Anyway, it was pure silk and quite quirky. Mum fell in love and I'm coming round to it. I feel great in it and it is just that little bit different, slightly extravagant but simple at the front. Am happy but wouldn't say I feel like I have 'the one'.

I think try a few totally different dresses on and see how you feel there. Or you could do a DTTB and get your man to surprise you!

I wouldn't let the timeline stress you out too much - I ordered mine at the end of august and I'm picking it up in early Feb. We set our date 8 months after our engagement and when i was dress shopping I got a lot of sharp intakes of breath when I said the date but it hasn't been a problem at all. A lot of my friends have planned weddings and bought dresses - not off the peg - within a six month time frame so it is possible.

I loved mine the second I tried it on, but it was recommended to me by the woman in the shop and not something I would have picked myself. Everything I tried on previous to that had been OK but not wow.

    Hope this helps!

Maybe go on your own, to a shop you haven't been to before, and tell the shop assistant a bit about you, and the style of your day, and see what she comes up with? I went to try on dresses with a couple of friends, and had a long chat with the assistant first, she picked out my two favourite dresses, they were exactly what I said I didn't want, but looked lovely. The ones I chose didn't suit me at all. I went again with my Mum and sister to another shop, and we liked different things, and it was a really stressful experience. In my case it doesn't really matter as my Mum is making my dress, but I definitely would not have ordered one with my Mum there, it was too confusing, and really stressful.

    Hope you find something soon

This is the main contender, i also like Ronald joyce Paris, but i think im discarding lace. I also like Maggie Sottero Davina. I want something that shows my figure as I've lost 21/2 stone now.

I agree I think you should go on a dress shopping trip on your own. I did it, it's not scary and infact it's really useful to form your own opinions on dresses. Have you tried on all sorts of styles or are you sticking to the same thing? Have you asked the shop ladies to suggest anything?

I knew my dress was the right one as I didn't want to take it off and I was comparing it to all the others. It took a long time, I went to about 10 shops! You've still got time, dresses take about six months to order so don't be pressured.

I went on my own a couple of weeks ago and a picked a dress that was nice. I pretty much decided that it was the one I was going to have. My mum and sister really disliked it, my mum said I quote 'It really ages you' it put me straight off. My sister said the lace reminded her of curtains. Im going to search for the Maggie Sottero - Davina once I've tried that on i will make a decision from my short list. The picture i have flashed is in the top 2. Thanks everyone for comments, all this support is priceless xxx

Hmmm after reading these posts I have decided when I do start to try some on I will be going alone!!

I'd much rather go on shopping sprees by myself anyway as hate rushing in fitting rooms, going back to the same shop 5 times cos i cant make up my mind! I imagine wedding dress shopping to be no different, in fact it will be worse!!!! I'm indecisive about new shoes for the weekend let alone £1000 on a wedding dress!!

I've wanted the wedding to be paid for by us, chosen by us with no interference - so the dress will be no different.

If and when I have that 'one moment' or even just a 'this is the most suitable' moment that's when I'll take my MOH or mum along for a second opinion... whilst all the while expressing my love for it so they won't be too underwhelmed.

It's your day, get the dress you love!!!!

How many times do you look at this forum of dress flashes and think 'i dont like that dress'? It's because we all have opinions and everyone is different, the people at your wedding are the same. There's never any pleasing everyone - just please yourself!! Smiley smile

I'm sure on the day if you've found something you're comfortable in you'll be so distracted with everything and everyone you'll forget all the worries you had! Smiley smile

But hey, I havent started yet so I could be wrong Smiley winking

    Good luck!!! xxxxxxx

Just wanted to add, don't worry yourself about the time you have left, your wedding is like 9 months away! I ordered my dress at the end of March for my October wedding, and it came in beginning of July, so just over 3 months. The lady in the shop told me they can get a dress made and shipped in in a month if they need to! xx

This dress is fantastic on you. It gives you an amazing shape.

You say you like Maggie Sottero Davina....is it the 'Davina' dress you like or the 'Divina'? The reason I ask is that they are very different dresses, I think the Divina dress will look amazing on you, it's a very similar shape to the one in the picture.

I totally understand what you are going through.

I cant remember having that feeling when i found my dress, but i did smile like a nutter when i put it on. But this quickly turned to worry that i had found my dress too soon as i am not getting married till July 2014! I was expecting tears from my mum and sis, but they never happened either, even though they both said it was the one! I think tv shows like Dont tell the bride etc dont help, everyone always cries, but this is prob for the cameras!

I do believe in fate though... i had been looking at my dress since it first came out on Sottero & Midgely site, prob about a year or so before i actually got engaged, id never seen it in person though. And then it happened to be in the sale at the first bridal shop i went to... in my size!!!! Bonus!!

You will find the one, but the moment is slightly overated lol

That dress in your photo does look stunning though!!!

    Good Luck!! xx

There was a dress in House of Fraser I kept going back to and going back to on the internet, but thought I should be discounting it because it wasn't a wedding-y enough wedding dress. (I really fell in love with Jenny Packhams' "Nymph" dress, but it was way out of my price range and I didn't trust an online shop to copy it properly - it's quite simple, so any flaws would be very apparent).

I took my sister in law dress shopping to the Bridal Boutique - an experience everyone says you should try once. I was very self concious of the shop ladies fussing around me and fawning and swooning over everythign I tried on. I walked out of there with nothing at all frustrated and underwhelmed.

So I said to my sister in law "Come on, lets go see this House of Fraser dress, if only to put it to bed and take it out of the equation".

It was fabulous, exactly what I was looking for and nowhere near the cost of a "proper" wedding dress. Its gorgeous, I can't love it enough. Quite simple, so I am dressing it up with a dramatic bouquet.

I had even less time than you to think about a dress. Budget was a constraint and no way was I spending a ridiculous amount on a dress for one day. But it's easy for me to be pragmatic - this a second wedding for both of us and the important bit was getting married after ten years together.

I went to Debenhams with my daughter and just tried on different dresses as I had no idea what would suit me as a second time bride. They were brilliant and had me trying on coloured dresses as well as big meringues to fishtails. This helped to eliminate what I didn't want - I had already decided that a bare shouldered look was not for me. Guess what I went for in the end!!

But when I tried on my dress in BHS it wasn't an Oh wow! moment! I tried it on then tried another dress on, in a colour in my size but the shape was right, the flare, length, no train but a bolero jacket added the decorum touch I wanted. Tried the same in a too tight ivory but knew it was the look that I wanted (at this point I was a bit emotional I had stood looking in the mirror for ages with my daughter was saying she thought it was the one!)

We tried a few other dresses in other shops but we both knew we had the right dress and then went home and ordered it. When it came in the right size and colour - I had a final try on and my dress went to my daughters until the wedding. No wobbles or whatever.

When it feels right, it feels right even if the colour, shape, size or whatever isn't what it should be. You will know whether it's a slow realisation or wham moment!

You've still got time. I originally put a deposit on a dress in March with the balance due in September. I wasn't totally convinced by it and went back in August and found another one.

It wasn't my Mum's favourite and she nearly threw a strop but I felt far more comfortable in the one I've gone for. It's a Hilary Morgan (but my one isn't on their site for some reason).

It was ordered on 29th August and I was in the shop on 20th November trying the actual dress on.

If you've got loads of people giving their opinion it might be better going on your own and listening to the ladies in the shop - they often know far more than your mum/sister/bridesmaids

I found my dress pretty quickly; tried it on in the shop but it was discontinued and not my size, so I thought it was ruled out even though I really liked it. I was then browsing ebay and saw it secondhand in my size, it wasn't quite a 'wow' moment but a realisation that I really loved the dress. I tried a few more after as I'd arranged a shopping trip with my BM but went for the ebay because although there was another I really liked it was 4 times the price of my ebay dress! I went to view/collect my dress and seeing it 'in the flesh' again I knew I'd made the right choice. It also helped seeing a real bride in my size wearing it in her photos and seeing how great she looked on the day!

When I first saw the dress in the shop I was on my own, I'd just popped in while I was passing and it wasn't what I thought I'd go for, the assistant selected it for me as a try on of the style. My Mum still hasn't seen me in it!

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't expect to have a 'wow' moment and don't worry to much about other opinions. When you find a dress that makes you look nice and feel nice then go for it. The dress you flashed makes you look more than nice btw and congrats on the weight loss.

Hey brides, just an update. I found a shop with Divina Maggie Sottero - I'm trying it on tomorrow! Wagging work in the morning LOL for my 11.00am appt. I will then decide between Divina-Maggie Sottero and McKenna-Sottero &Midgley (the one in the picture). I will order on Saturday as I have had enough about stressing and need to remember that the day is not all about my dress! I let you know my final decision.........x

    Hi

Don`t know where you live but I would recommend the lady who made my daughter`s red and black dress when she could not find what she wanted. It is Love Couture in Norwich. May be worth a look or a phone call to see what he can do to help.
