wedding dresses (online)

Jemlou88, 13 February, 2014 at 22:07 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi just wondering if anyone has had any good experiences with buying their wedding dress online? Our budget is probably as low as you'll get! But I don't want a crappy dress and can't afford to end up with loads of horrible dresses!! The dress I have loved from the start of Wedding planning and keep coming back to I can only seem to find from China! Has anyone bought from modalee?? I've just found this site and has the dress cheaper than diydress etc which all seem to be the same company when you try to chat but modalee site seems completely different company but probably still China based. Or if anyone knows who actually designed the dress I would be grateful for any info Smiley smile I'm clueless to who real designer is as haven't been to any shops as I know they'll be too pricey!! Thank you in advance Smiley smile

If you are going for China, make sure you ask them to send you photographs of *their version* of this dress. Most people take it as read that what they see is what they will get, and that's rarely the case with these sort type of factories

Thankyou for replies Smiley smile will have a look at that fb page now! Mine will too have to come from China but is just finding the right site! The only place that has got back to me with real pic is hotintheshop, I wasn't keen at first but then found real life pic of original dress and not that different. Has anyone bought or know if modalee site is any good? I will attach pic from hotintheshop..thanks xx

I've never heard of modelee, but have warned others about the dreadful dress I was sent from China. Pics might look ok, but they don't show the feel of cheap, nylon material, poor detailing, wrong fastenings & I could go on. please only use them if you have a recommendation, and even then, proceed with caution.

There are many charity shops that specialise in bridal wear. Its not always 80's style retro either. Many stores get shop 2nds, one-offs and brand new stock when shops close down. Its worth a look, because you can see & try on the garments, rather than hoping what you ordered online is exactly like the photo- which it never is!

Is there a dress outlet or warehouse near you? i thought about going for china made dress as we are on a tight budget. i visited 2 bridal shops for the feel of what i wanted and found what i thought was the one at £1200 i ummed and arred with my mum (who kindly said she would pay for my dress regardless of cost) i then visited a dress outlet and found THE ONE for less than half the price. the outlet i went to is in stockport buti know they have shops elsewhere. (sorry for lazy writing) x

Where did you have your dress from..so I know to avoid that site!! I'm probably about 2 and a half hours at least away from any outlets. This is also what makes it harder, we are just too far away from any cities or anywhere with good shops even!! X

I just say do your research then hun, ask for pics and samples of what materials they use if you are going to buy off internet. My bridesmaid dresses are from a seller on ebay, she is irleand based but they are china made dresses and they are gorgeous (well i think they are) and for the price i paid per dress i cant complain. Research, questions and go with an open mind. I'm sure if you feel it is right it will be xx

The horrid thing that arrived from China was ordered from Helene bridal. This was a few years back & they are bound to have changed names by now. Some of the charity shops have online bridal shops that deliver.

Anything from BHS you like? http://www.bhs.co.uk/en/bhuk/category/wedding-1020484/the-bride-1020511#pageSize=40&catalogId=34096&viewAllFlag=false&sort_field=Relevance&langId=-1&beginIndex=1&storeId=13077&parent_categoryId=471109&categoryId=471149&refinements=category~[471562|471149]&noOfRefinements=1

TKMaxx also have an online bridal store.

I'd personally prefer ebay to a Chinese supplier (other than actually seeing the dress in a shop). If its a reputable seller, they will at least take extra pics for you if not provide a number to speak on the phone or even show you the dress via a webcam.

I haven't any experience of buying dresses from China (and to be honest, regardless of budget I wouldn't ever risk it), I know you say you're quite some distance from the nearest bridal outlet but I definitely think you should consider making the trip. Better to try on and see what you're getting then waste money on something that ultimately is never going to be nearly as good quality.

Or have you considered the high street stores that have bridal sections like Debenhams, BHS etc?

Hello Smiley smile my sister got married in 2012 and bought her dress from china and it was absolutely stunning! I plan to do the same. I would attach a picture of the dress for you but I daren't do so without asking my sister first and it is a little late now, so i will ask her in the morning and try to attach the picture for you.

The question you need to ask yourself as you have such a tight budget is what would you do if the dress did not live up to expectations when it arrived or even unwearable? Could you take the risk and could you afford to buy another one?

A lot of bridal stores have MASSIVE discounts on at this time of the year to make way for new 2014 stock. The bridal store that was doing the fashion show in last weeks wedding fair were showing dresses for £300!!!!

this is the dress Smiley smile not the best picture i'm afraid as i only have a few on my computer haha. the bridesmaids dresses were from china too (apart from mine which came from a maternity shop as i was heavily pregnant haha) she bought the dress from ebay, she said if you are using ebay just make sure you use a seller with a 100% feedback, that way you know they have many satisfied customers. also make sure you buy a petticoat to give the skirt some lift if you are going for a style with a fuller skirt. i can't afford the price tags in the shops either so like yourself my only option is to buy from china. i'm sure it will look lovely! Smiley smile

I should also add, make sure you order your dress well in advance (at least 2 or 3 months) as there can be all sorts of hold-ups with shipping, order even sooner if you can just on the off-chance that there are any problems with the dress once it arrives Smiley smile
