Wedding entertainment?

MrsChapman2be, 21 September, 2014 at 19:22 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi everyone, new to hitched so first time writing a thread. Im getting married in may 2016 at my local church and then ashfield house in wigan for my reception!

Im so excited and looking forward to it.

Just been having a wonder about entertainment, such as whether to have a DJ or a singer /band? Also been considering maybe singing waiters.

Just wondering what everyone else is planning or what you've seen at different weddings that was good and you enjoyed?

Thank you so much for any answers ? xxx

Hello Smiley smile most bands will stay behind to DJ for you after they have played their set - ours is doing that, they only work from a laptop these days.

Our band is called Black Cadillac, we wanted someone who could play a range of music so that everyone could have a little dance

Congratulations! I prefer a live band or solo singer, but it generally comes down to your budget. A decent performer costs a lot more than a dj.

Another thing to consider is how much space there is at the venue. Smaller venues may not have space for a band.

We are having a live band, who will also provide a DJ set in between their live bits. This was a priority for us, so we are prepared to forego other bits in the budget to allow us to have them.

We were at a wedding at the weekend where they had a DJ. this was good because he played something for everyone, and there were a fair few children around who got the benefit of the cheesy party songs. On arrival at the venue (a barn) they had a solo singer with a guitar who was also very good and was nice.

One of the guests, as his wedding present to the couple, took the mike and sang a really good rendition of Nessun Dorma.....that was a surprise, and a lovely touch.

I went to a wedding with singing waiters in august - it was a complete surprise! It was a bit of a sketch, they pretended to have an argument and wound up breaking out into Italian song. They were very good and entertaining. Was a good laugh. I had heard of singing waiters and thought it'd be really cheesy but I was glad to be proven wrong, it was just good fun. I don't know which company it was though unfortunately (this was at a wedding in Ireland so those particular ones might not operate in England)

We are having our friend play a few songs (including our first dance) just him and a guitar followed by a Celidh band which is a traditional folk/scottish dancing, pretty much every wedding we have attended in Scotland has one and it;s a great way to get people dancing as all the steps are called out.

    Hi and welcome to Hitched.

We had a sweet buffet, activity packs for kids, garden games and a caricature artist in the evening and everyone had a really good time and there were no bored looking faces. Would definitely recommend a caricature artist if you can afford it. Ours gave every guest a picture to take home with them and made everyone laugh (including H's grandparents who loved it the most!!)

    Also had a DJ.

Hi we are having a duo rather than a DJ as not having an evening "do" as such justban informal day. Have a look / listen to the remedy (Hannah & Elliott) they are on you tube and www.sound cloud.com/wearetheremedy they sound lovely & mellow so if yr looking for heavy metal then defo not for you! We heard them at a local food festival. Hannah was enthusiastic and so helpful when I contacted her. From the north west too best of luck with he planning xx

We haven't booked yet but we plan to have a band. My OH used to do the odd bit of djing when we were at uni so we have our own pa system and speakers so we will supply the music before the band, between sets and after the band has finished, into the wee small hours hopefully (our venue lets us go on until 2am!)

We've booked MC Stallion (was on Britains Got Talent a couple of years ago) to DJ & do a bit of MC'ing later on in the evening. It's our kind of style & he's done weddings before so knows what he's doing. I love the idea of having a caricature!

    Hi

We are planning to have both a band and a "wrap around" DJ for our night. I thought this would be very expensive but the band have a special arrangement with a DJ and they are organizing it for us - it only cost an extra £75 for the DJ.

I'm not sure where you are, we are in the midlands and we booked a band we had seen at someone else's wedding. They are amazing. Link below if its any use to you.

I would also speak to other people who have booked bands and get some feedback. You could also go and see a few local bands play and see if any take your fancy.

Good luck for your big day
