Our venue recommends catering for 75% of evening guests for the buffet.

I was going to suggest around 80%, so go for about 110 to 120. Remember not everyone who eats in the day will want to eat loads in the evening too.

We're having about 90 to 100 quests on the night time (hopefully!) but i learnt from my first wedding that catering for everyone was a waste of time as there was so much food left.

This time we're catering for 60, and thats it.

I swear i will fight people for the last sausage roll......and i'll use pregnancy as my excuse ?

I thought 50 was a bit low but in a way i can see his point.. we are not inviting the evening guest until 7.30pm ish so most people would have eaten and we have gone for the top buffet which has loads of stuff to it i think would probably feed 2 people for each person.. am gona stick with 75 me thinks..

I'm catering for 100% of my evening guests but we won't be eating until about half ten. So everyone will be leathered and fancy some food! And we are only having fish and chips in thos little cones, so it's not a massive buffet or anything.

Maybe I am just greedy/lazy, but if it were me I would only have something small to eat before I came as an evening guest in anticipation of a nice buffet and yummy cake about 9pm ish!

Our venue says cater for 75%, but since we have the max no of day guests that the venue will allow and not an extra 25% coming in the evening I expect we are catering from about 80% with the evevning buffet.

It may sound wasteful, but personally I think its nicer if guests have plenty of food and there is some left over, rather than guests have the munchies in the evening and there is not enough food for them.

WHat are you having for your one course dinner? You might find people will be inclined to tuck into a buffet later on. I would want to cater for at least 100 out of your 150.

I was wondering about this - we are having bacon butties and approx 100-120 evening guests. Day guests (60) will have had a 2 course or 3 course main meal. Does the 75-80% thing count for things like bacon baps? There will also be sweetie favours and our wedding cupcakes left over. Meeting our potential caterer this weekend and don't want her to push for 100% if it won't be needed.

I wouldn't feel comfortable providing food for 1/3 of people. I don't know if it's 'cos my lot are pigs, but from what I've seen people, after a few drinks will eat because it's there rather than because they want/need it.

I've also said before, but I've seen a buffet run out and evening guests left unfed (after long journeys to the reception - we left at 3pm for 6pm arrival so had no dinner!). Another hitcher did say she had seen the opposite - lots left over. So I guess it's up to you to weight up what your guests are likely to do.

I'd rather have some go to waste than people leave my reception early to find food.

I don't think that's anywhere near enough. If I'd had a three course meal at 5pm, I wouldn't be hungry at 9, but if I'd only had a one course meal, I'd definitely want to pick at something.

Also, I never eat before going to an evening party as I always expect there to be food.

    WSS.

If I was to have a one course meal at 5pm and then add alcohol and dancing to it I'd probably be Hank Marvin by 9pm.

Our venue suggested catering for 50% (or a "half buffet" for everyone)

Our venue suggested 75 - 80% - and i'll be asking for a couple of trays to be kept for after the party finishes, for us and the overnight guests.

I am no expert, but I reckon catering for 75% would be fine, I never want to eat the buffet in the evening at a wedding. I am always too full!

Its a one course fish and chipp dinner or pie and veg and then buffet desserts so it is acutally a 2 course meal..

in the evening there is a buffet and then wedding cake afterwards
