Wedding Gift - Money

RobynMilner, 30 June, 2013 at 17:43 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi All,

We are going to ask for money donations towards our honeymoon as we already have our house and everything that comes with that in place, does anyone have any suggestions for a good website to use for people to make their donations?

We have already paid for the honeymoon ourselves so will need people to make donations and then this can be transferred into our bank to pay towards the honeymoon!

Thanks in advance!

Have a look at the Honeyfund website. That sounds like the sort if thing you're after, I'm thinking of using it myself.

We're using honeyfund, although nobody has used it yet, I suspect that people will give cash or cheque on the day if they decide to give us something

    Hi

Thanks for your quick response, am not too sure about honeyfund as by the time of our wedding we will have already paid for our honeymoon and you have to use money raised by honeyfund towards a holiday so that means would have to book another holiday.

It says in the terms and conditions it can not be used against a previously paid holiday

Are there any chance other sites out there?

    Thanks

Honeyfund would be fine, it doesn't go to the actual honeymoon, guests just pay towards the giftlift via paypal and you can withdraw the money from paypal and use it towards whatever you like!

I'm pretty sure you can hook Honeyfund up to a PayPal account or similar. People feel like that are buying you something specific but it actually goes into one pot and you can spend it on whatever you want.

Our daughter used Trailfinders. People can either donate on line or over the phone and they gave them little leaflets with all the details on to pop inside their invites with their names and wedding date on.

Friends of mine have just set up a bank account and are giving out the sort code/ account number in with the invites. I wish we'd done that as We've just asked for money on the day and now I'm a little worried about the security of that.

Looks like I may have to have another read of Honeyfund, do people pay for the premium site or just stick with basic site?

You ask the other half to do 1 thing and . . . lol

Does anyone know what the outcome would be in the case of bankruptcy? These things do happen - ask anyone with Woolworths or HMV gift vouchers!

I'd never even considered that! Good point! We've gone with John Lewis and I think we'll be pretty safe with them, though.

Rather than going through a website have you not considered people giving you cash and cheques as I've been to a number of weddings recently where this was the norm. It saves you and your guests having to faff around on websites, you can then do with it what you need to and it saves the bankrupcy issue!!!

We've just got the basic honeyfund, in the case of bankruptcy there wouldn't be a problem, honeyfund don't hold on to the money, it is paid directly to your paypal account, or guests can input be amount and give it you in cash/cheque, so honeyfund are never holding on to it, they make their money from the premium service and advertising
