Wedding in Lapland - help needed!!!

Pandapops, 12 October, 2009 at 20:06 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 1

Hi Girls,

HELP! We have already booked a wedding in the UK but after many dicussions have decided it really isn't for us and have ste our hearts on getting married in Lapland...we just don't know where to start - have contacted a couple of companies for quotes but it isn't moving fast enough! Does anyone have any idea where to start? We know when we want to go and have ideas re numbers and budget but other than that keep hitting brick walls.

If anyone has any info, experiences, advice etc I'd be so grateful for it as at the moment it feels like we'll end up getting hitched at the local dry ski slope instead!!

Thanks in advance

Sadie

Hello The bridal procession of the Lapp wedding is an old tradition - especially in Karasjok in Norwegian Lapland. The participants of the procession consist most often of unmarried boys and girls (couples) and the bride and groom themselves. The bride and groom are the fourth couple of the procession. Young couples in bridal procession of Sami wedding The groom mate and the bridesmaid follow them. Finally there are other couples who are invited to the celebration. The first three couples of the procession are chosen by the bride and groom. All the couples go hand in hand. The procession often starts from the home of the bride or the groom. Often the procession ends at the church. After the ceremony in the church, the new procession ends at the place of the wedding reception. Big event A traditional Sami wedding is a big event in a small society. It's not unusual to have 600-700 guests at the reception. The biggest ones at Kautokeino are reported to have had up to 2000 guests.
