Wedding Insurance?

Kathryn_Tom, 28 May, 2012 at 23:46 Posted on Planning 0 11

Have any of you lovely people got wedding insurance?

If so, who did you go with and what does it cover? I've looked at a few websites but not entirely sure if some policies cover venue cancellation. Any help/feedback would be much appreciated.

We're planning to pay the deposit on our venue by tomorrow evening so would like to take the policy out asap so that it will cover... if it's worth it?

Thanking you!

I would recommend it. Ours was through ecclesiastical. Didn't need to use it but pleased it was there.

Not sure how accurate this is but have heard some not great reports about e&l.

Most companies should be able to provide you with a standard policy summary which should detail exactly what they do and do not cover. If you pay your venue deposit before taking out insurance then check if they cover for things you have already paid for because some of them don't.

We went with John Lewis as that's who we'll have our gift list with and they did cover us for suppliers we had already booked.

Edit: I know it's an extra expense but I think it's definitely worth it given the state of the economy. If your venue goes bust or you lose your job then you'd kick yourself if you didn't have it.

Thanks for your replies... I looked some up last night and e&l came up quite a lot but I wasn't convinced so I'm glad you told me that! John Lewis I feel I could trust... despite the fact I don't think I have ever purchased anything from there lol!

Anyways... if anybody else can suggest companies I would be really appreciate it.

    Thanks again

Lucky for us we did not need to use ours. I would seriously reccomend it though especially before you start paying depositis on bits too.

We used Debenhams and the policy was £90.00. There are cleaper insurances out there but I felt more comfortable using a "known" company.

Another little tip read the small print as most insurance companies will only pay back monies due at the time even if you have paid the full balance. We never paid any of our suppliers in full until their contact stated it was required.

    We went with john lewis.

It's a good idea to get it before paying your venue depost - some insurers don't cover you for stuff bought/booked before the policy start date.

We went with Dreamsaver wedding insurance as it was recommended on Martin Lewis's website. It also covered us for the deposits we had already paid which we needed.

    Hi,

We have our with ecclesiastical too. It was a good price & I like the fact that you could tailor it to your requirements on their website & get a price straight away. I've seen a lot of good reports about them, I've not had to claim yet.

We also went with John Lewis. They offered different levels of cover and I compared our budget spreadsheet to the lists of cover. I think it was about 70quid in the end. Well worth it if you need to call on it.

My sister had used them and though in the end she didn't need to use it they were brilliant when the heavy snow meant there was a possibility her in laws wouldn't make it down from Scotland and they were wondering if they'd have to postpone. It reassured me they would not be any problem if you needed to call on the insurance..

We went with Debenhams and it was £59. Wanted to go with a well know company and they were offering the cover we wanted for the cheapest price.

I went with e&l as it's recommended if you or your OH are in the armed forces. My husbands in the navy so could have been called away at any time and e&l covers that. I don't know if any wedding insurance covers the military and a friend recommended it to me as she was using it herself. I never had to use it but I'm so glad we had it just in case.
