Wedding Insurance

*MM3*, 1 August, 2013 at 23:12 Posted on Planning 0 18

This has probably been asked a million times so apologies ?

What wedding insurance has everyone went with? How much and what did you get for it? Genuinely no idea about these things and don't know how much we should spend on it and if it's a just incase sort of thing?
Our venue is a historic house and has loads of valuable things in it but they've told us they have insurance but still don't know if we should pay some extra because of that?
Like I say no clue about this and hadn't even thought about it til being on here ?

I should've just put this in your other thread but get ho! We got our insurance from John Lewis - £50 and covered up to 10k wedding (ours is nowhere near this - more like 4k!) but that was the lowest option. It allows room for being covered should we increase the budget though (not that we will!) you don't need to worry about the contents of the venue, as you mentioned, that is a different insurance that the venue will have themselves. Wedding insurance is to cover you should you have to cancel, etc, so you can claim back. We just did it cos I'm a worrier! Chose John Lewis as it's pretty foolproof as department stores go and lots of people recommend them.

Haha I should have probably asked in the other thread actually!! Smiley laugh
Ah that's good I wasn't sure if the more the venue has etc the more you paid lol, hopeless Smiley smile
I'm a worrier too so will feel better with a good insurance, just going to look at John Lewis now..had a look at Debenhams too so will probably end up going the department store route too, they seem pretty reliable so will put my mind at ease hopefully lol Smiley smile

Thanks again for yet more help much appreciated Smiley smile x

As far as I know, it is based on what your spend is, so obviously if you are having a grand venue then that is likely to cost more, so you'll buy insurance that covers you up to the amount you've spent, if that makes sense? Also, check that the insurance covers things that were booked before you bought the insurance - some only cover purchases made after the date of the insurance. That's why we went with John Lewis as theirs covers purchases made before.

Ahh right I see, will definitely look into that as well then since we've booked a few things and probably a couple more before we get it.
    Thanks very much Smiley smile

Miss M I know I hadn't thought of it either before here, or things like giving notice to be married etc..might just be me being silly lol Smiley laugh And i'd rather go with a well known name too, would trust them more I think Smiley smile

Thanks for all the help x

We got ours through Debenhams, we had already booked quite a bit when we took it out. We calculated what we were spending on certain things them chose the price tier that suited that. We also added on marquee cover for our venue too.

    Hey,

I started a thread on this too and just went with the most popular at the time which was John Lewis cover up to 10,000. I don't need that much. This one doesn't cover a wedding abroad or marquee cover.

We (or I.. H2B had nothing to do with it!) got the £58 for £10,000 cover from John Lewis. Debenhams didn't quite have the cover we needed and I feel like John Lewis are the most trustworthy.

We bought ours through Wedding Plan (http://www.weddingplaninsurance.co.uk/) and paid £34.99 for 10k cover. It is well known and back by insurance from UK General Insurance - so quite well covered overall.

At what point do you book your wedding insurance? We've paid the deposit on our venue now so is this the perfect time to look at insurance?

I had wondered the same thing, I think when you've booked your venue and know your budget is a good time? We've booked a few things now and still haven't bought it so need to get a shift on Smiley smile
