I am the same as you trikebabe, I am getting married for the second time after being married the first time for 32 years. I am having my two daughters as bridesmaid and my two Grandsons as page boys. Isn't strange planning this time round, there is so much more choice in everything.xx

    Hello Trikebabe

If it's any help, nearly all of the invitations and Save the Dates etc I make have the Bride's name first. Only about twice have I been specifically asked to put the Groom's name first (at each grooms' insistence!). I don't think there is really a right or wrong and it maybe that your choice is based on what sounds or flows better. In the past invitations were conventionally sent by the parents of the Bride, so her name would be placed first but nowadays I get equal amounts of orders with the Bridal couple hosting but the convention seems to continue. Quite a lot of my designs have the names or monograms on the cover and again, in a majority of the cases I'll put the Bride first. Many other stationery designers' sites show that they have done this too.

Here is a quick step by step to follow or use as a checklist before deciding on wording.

Step 1 Decide who is announcing the wedding - the couple's parents or the bride and groom themselves.
Sometimes depends on who is paying for the event, mostly these days the invites are from the Bride and Groom.

Step 2 Determine if your invitation will be formal or informal. You can say 'Mr and Mrs Marcus Simpson request the honour of your presence' or use a more casual phrase like 'please join us.'

Step 3 In general, use the term 'the honour of your presence' if the ceremony will be held in a place of worship. Otherwise use 'the pleasure of your company' or another less formal phrase.

Step 4 For a traditional invitation, list the bride's name - usually first and middle - after her parents' names. For example, 'Mr and Mrs Marcus Simpson request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Alison Susan.'

Step 5 Follow the bride's name with the full name of the groom: 'to John Robert Williams.' You may choose to name the groom's parents: 'son of Mr and Mrs Robert Williams.'

Step 6 Next goes the date: 'Friday, 9th August 2009.'

Step 7 Mention the time of the ceremony: at 2pm

Step 8 List the location and full address. (a postcode is good, for those not familiar with the area)

Step 9 Decide the RSVP address - are they to be sent to the bride's parents or the couple? Also decide if you are going to include a RSVP card - this way you generally get more confirmed RSVP's sooner.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Trikebabe

Traditionally, prior to the wedding, the brides name always goes first. Once the couple are married does the grooms name goes first. So, your invites, save the dates, RSVP's etc stationary will have your name first followed by your grooms name. On your thank you cards and stationary for after the wedding, the grooms name will go first followed by your name.

    Hope that helps.
