Wedding Invitation Gift List - Asking for money - Not sure what to do!!

cerysrichards, 8 August, 2013 at 10:46 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hello

we are working on our invitations and have come a bit stuck on the gift list part - we have our own house and everything we want, we would prefer to have money so we can use it to improve the garden, buy a few items of furniture for the house and also use towards our honeymoon. I know there are 'money poems' out there but I feel rude asking people for cash! any suggestions????? xx

I hate money poems but don't mind a simply worded, polite request for money.

Or you could put nothing - most people will probably give you cash anyway.

When my OH's cousin got married they didn't use a poem, but simply put something along the lines of "in lieu of presents we would very much appreciate vouchers for Next....and *bride's name* promises not to spend them ALL on clothes!" ?

I wouldn't say anything, we're not mentioning anything on our invites about gifts or money.
A lot will probably give cash anyway.

If most of your guests can get online you could use a honeymoon website, that way people can buy 'gifts' such as "a drink at the air port" or "a plant for the garden" you set the 'price' for each item but the money just goes into your bank account. You get an email saying "name has bought you a #item" and it becomes unavailable on your site so it is as if someone has actually bought that item. Does that make sense?
