Wedding invite delay

littleredfairy, 24 February, 2015 at 14:20 Posted on Planning 0 16

I got my invites off of ebay - and had expected them to be with me by now for a May 16 wedding. They have only just dispatched them today!

I have all my other info ready and was going to ask for RSVPs by March 16 - if I don't get them until March 1 is that too short notice? Most people have already said they are coming and some RSVP'ed on our wedivite already.

Don't really want to delay RSVP deadline in case need to send out second wave of invites to my B list.

I would extend the RSVP date to end March, then your second wave if necesary can have until end of April.

You already have your invites for may next year? I wouldn't send them yet, people will definitely forget to RSVP with that much time. March should be OK for may, but you will have to chase people, its amazing how people don't reply! I had a June deadline for an end of September wedding.

This absolutely! You don't need to send your invitations until at least November for a May wedding, especially if you've already sent web invitations. If you mean you're sending out save the dates, then you still don't need to worry - just send them as soon as they arrive and you'll be fine.

    I'm thinking it's May the 16th (it's a Saturday) rather than May 2016 ?

Agree, ask for RSVP's by end of March, then any extras by end April, giving a couple of weeks to confirm things with suppliers if needed. If you've got a short RSVP time then hopefully people will do it while it's fresh in their minds and not forget if they had longer

I think she means the wedding is on the 16th of May. And she wanted people to RSVP by the 16th of March.

Maybe extend it a little but not by too much. When do you need to know your final numbers for your suppliers?

I read it as May 16th this year too, hence the concern Smiley winking I think you're fine asking for a reply by 16th March with no need to extend. Will focus people's minds.

Then yes, RSVP's by the end of March giving you the end of April for the second wave should be fine. You usually judge it by the time that your venue needs final numbers so as long as that gives you time, then it should be ok

In my opinion, the smaller the gap between invite and rsvp, the quicker you will get your answers!!

I agree with heavymetalmaiden. We gave our guests a month to rsvp. Half the people got back to us within 2 weeks and then there was nothing for two weeks but felt like i shouldn't chase them up because i had given them till the end of the month. 2 weeksis plenty of time for people to check at work, with partners etc... Yeah, I was thinking this as well. I would probably leave the RSVP date as it is. People are less likely to read it and think "oh I have ages" and then forget.

Thanks, also really daft but we also already printed the wedding info so would rather not waste paper and print again

Lol, sorry, it does read as a year rather than a day! I think you're fine, sounds sensible to me

Update - invites arrived - without the RSVP cards with food choices on!!! So cross. I have complained but even if they send them now they will mean too much delay as coming from Poland so migth have to spend more and make oursleves. Very cross.

Could you just make a free wedding website for food options and rsvp? Just add in a note in the invite with a link to the website, then you can send your invites out straight away!! Hth :-)
