Wedding List - Don't shoot me down!

bec84, 1 April, 2009 at 14:05 Posted on Planning 0 5

I wasn't having a list originally, but my mum has persuaded me I ought to do a small list, mainly for my older relatives as they had already asked what we would like! I'm also going to set up a just giving site as an alternative, as we'd prefer the money to go towards something worthwhile.

I decided John Lewis haven't a clue what to put on it, or how much Items should be!

Any help much appreciated!

    We've set one up with www.marriagegiftlist.co.uk (or.com can't remember!)

I've not put much on it yet but we're starting off with salt and pepper thingies from £10ish, then going up to plates, glasses, cuttlery, towels, bedding, maybe some garden things. I also like the idea of putting activities, such as theatre tickets and red letter day type activities on there. There are also some random things like an aarm clock and a radio for the kitchen!

If people would prefer to give cash or nothing that's fine.

My dilemma is how many things to put on there without looking greedy, and also how much in value to go up to. Probably no more than £150, but I haven't put anything on there yet.

I've just been looking and I could really get carried away!!

I've managed to set up my just giving page, and registered with John Lewis online so might start with the traditional things like glasses, plates, cups, etc.

Rich has just warned me not to add any handbags to the list!

Remember your family can also get you vouchers from JL or anywhere so if they don't like what you've chosen ? they can send you the vouchers instead.

We are setting up our trailfinders list at the weekend...nice!

ETS: I have in fact saved myself the trip into town by phoning them (and thank goodness I did as they don't actually deal with them in store). It was all done and dusted in 5 mins...phew!

We have our list at john lewis too, it's good as it doesn't charge guests for delivery of the items and that. we enjoyed going into the store and using the scanner to scan things onto our list that we liked-they also gave us a voucher for the cafe which made it a nice experience.

We found there were different things online and in store so you should definitley do both!

We put on a lot of things that ranged massively in price and a lot of the things are traditional weddingy-type presents as we're renewing a lot of our household (particularly kitchen) stuff as we could only afford cheapy stuff when we first moved in together. Also our pots and pans were hand-me-downs so it will be nice to have new things Smiley smile

Have fun and don't feel guilty unless you are being greedy! People will want to buy you a gift and you'd do the same for them (I hope).

    xxx
