wedding magazines suck

Jemima Renrut, 31 January, 2013 at 21:16 Posted on Planning 0 19

And are completely useless once you've got your dress, that's half if it gone then. Not bought one for months, just been reminded why.

I'm ashamed at the amount of money I wasted on wedding magazines. They are all so themed, which in theory is fine, except they are all missing that very simple and popular style that is just "wedding" theme. Not everyone wants village fete style vintage tea parties. What's wrong with a classical wedding?!

This exactly. I've been holding out for one slightly autumny or something but no, As lovely as they look my wedding does not require bunting, teapots, pink & sage, or lace. useless.

I keep buying them for inspiration for decor and stuff but all that ends up happening is me having complete dress wobbles when I see others that I love more than mine! OH has banned me as he is fed up of me panicking all the time!

    Completely agree.

I stopped buying it after I bought my dress. Plus there are so many ideas & tips on here I don't feel like I need to buy them anyway.

I agree that they are a waste of money. When we first got engaged I bought loads every month! I now just buy the occasional one if I'm working a long day at work and want something to read!

Shamefacedly admitting to being sucked into buying them every month still, even though I read through them in 30 minutes and are just not worth it ? MUST STOP BUYING CRAPPY MAGAZINES!!!!

I have found Pinterest and wedding blogs to be so much more inspiring than bridal mags.

I found that as most of them wont advertise prices for the dresses etc i still then had to go off and research so rather saved the £5 for buying a magazine and put that towards something else.

I got one when I was first engaged. I haven't bothered since. Boring! The internet has far more inspiration!

Just got back from sainsburys, I had a flick thorough the mags - what did I see--------- bunting, teapots, lace you are so right.

They show what they think you want to see, so you see it and think that's what you should be having.

I am bored also with seeing photographs with a yellow cast, you spend all that money getting the exact colours and end up with a yellow dress.Almost every photo in there was yellow.

I thought I was the only one who thought this! What a relief it is to hear that other people agree the content is majorly over priced. I have yet to find a magazine titled "weddings on a modest budget." I think the magazines create false hopes and pressurise potential brides into thinking that 2k really is a cheap price for a wedding dress. It would be lovely to be fortunate enough to have a fairytale wedding, but in the real world I do not think it is at all possible.

I absolutely agree, and yet I buy several, most months. I love the act of buying them.

I got a couple when we first started planning. I was on holiday at the time so was good to read there when I didnt have the internet and the to do lists where good in the early months to remind you what to book/buy when everything is still really overwhelming.

I think once you've got your own personality into your own wedding and your in full swing, you don't need magazines for ideas.

Save the money... if you buy 1 magazine a month at £4 for the average 18 months you are wedding planning it would cost you in the region of £72!

That's a pair of shoes, price for one day guest or your bouquet!

Hitched, Google images and Pinterest are your friend. Save yourself the money.
