Wedding Make Up

purpletaff, 30 October, 2011 at 21:52 Posted on Planning 0 56

Hi there

Have just found out that my usual beauty lady that I have known for ages is preggers and due 3 days before my wedding. She said she would still love to do my nails/make up etc but I am paranoid about my make up covering my red nose (rosacea :-( ). I can't risk her not being there and a friend of mine has a daughter who works for Champneys so she is going to take over the duties. Just wondered if anyone knows the best make up to get? Rosacea not too bad, just a bit red! Need a decent long lasting foundation etc. Will have my "new" make up lady on hand all day as she is coming to the wedding but don't want to spoil her enjoyment of the day.

Thanks all xx

If you want a base to cover redness but still look natural on the skin you can't go wrong with Dior Forever Foubdation - it's truly amazing stuff. It's sweatproof and transfer proof too so really does last all day. Go for either 010, 020, 030, 040 or 050 as these are yellow toned shade and the most natural on the skin. Juliet

If you have the money, I recommend hiring a makeup artist. They are trained professionals who get paid for their services. I wouldn't necessarily recommend having it done at your house. Although, it may be more convenient for you, it will cost you more money and there are several factors that may make it less optimal then if you went to the makeup artist . For one thing, if you go to the artist he/she will have all of the tools and makeup necessary and the best lighting and mirrors.

Thanks for that. Will have a look to see where I can go to find the right shade.

My Mum has Rosacea quite bad and uses MAC makeup. She uses a moisturiser with spf50 (because it's really antagonised by the sun) and then their liquid foundation. ipeople would be so shocked if they knew how bad her face gets but because her makeup is perfect and lasts all day no one is any the wiser! Good luck

Whilst Doublewear is a great every day makeup it's no-good for bridal work as it causes flashback on camera and can lOok ghostlike on the skin :-(

Thanks for this Juliet I'm glad you said I was relying on my bottle of Doublewear. Is Dior quite a heavy coverage? I want to look like i've got makeup on and not going for the natural look

The Dior can be applied lightly or layered for more full coverage - it's beautiful either way. I would get a sample and try it. Juliet x

Yes that's the one. I don't use a primer underneath only oc8 antishine underneath if the person has an oily tzone. Juliet x

Right I'll give you both the advice that I give when teaching a lesson about choosing the right Foundation colour. Firstly I would NEVER let the girl in the shop choose because normally they don't really have a clue and mainly because of the lighting in shops. It's yellow toned lighting and daylight is blue toned. This is why when you choose a Foundation in a shop under yellow lighting it can look wrong when you wear it in daylight. When you are shopping for foundation, especially for a wedding, you need to match the colour to your neck and chest area as that way the colour on your face will look the same colour as your neck and chest area.when you are wearing your wedding dress. Put 3 or 4 shades of foundation on your neck and then go outside into daylight with a small mirror and lOok for the colour that's disappeared or nearly disappeared - that's your correct shade. Regarding the Dior it does come in pink tones too. Juliet x

Hi Juliet - would you recommend any other bases? I read that this foundation can be a bit drying and as I have dry skin it might not be suitable.

I expect you're wishing you hadn't said anything now... :-)

If you have dry skin then I would highly recommend Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua - it's got a high water content to it but unlike Vitalumiere it's more Demi matt on the skin (Vitalumiere can go slidy after a few hours and can look too dewy on camera). Vitalumiere Aqua is best applied with your fingers not a brush. It's beautiful on the skin and looks amazing on camera. Chanel are good at giving out samples so ask for one and see what you think. Hi Juliet

Just a quick question. I had my trial at the Dior stand in John Lewis. She used the Dior Forever foundation, the primer and powder. all looked fab but was very expensive. Will get the foundation but do I need to get that primer and powder or do you know of any others that will do. I do have redness on my nose if this makes a difference.

    Thanks Juliet xx

How did you find the coverage? I asked for a trial but they weren't very helpful and just removed a patch of my foundation on my cheek and added a bit of Forever making me look patchy and I'm not sure whether it wasn't thick enough but I could still see my blemishes. I always use Estee Lauder double wear but it looks awful on photos x

Purplestaff Like I said in my email to you Dior forever can be a sheer to medium cover base. Apply a thin layer all over (I buff it into the skin using a Jemma Kidd Pro flat top foundation brush) and then I press on an extra cover that I need using a DRY foundation sponge. This is the best way to get fuller cover where needed. Juliet x

Natjay: If I was workIng on someone with really dry skin I would only apply a tiny bit of powder to the tzone just to set it slightly (I use shu Uemura colourless loose powder). I then spritz the face with makeup forever mist and fix which completely sets the makeup and also takes away the look of any powder and makes your skin lOok like skin again. Juliet x

Only just found this message, sorry. The coverage was good but she did use the primer and powder too. Can't afford the whole lot so going to try just the foundation and see how it looks. Waiting for it to come into stock in John Lewis! I really liked my trial look as I looked like a more perfect version of me!

PS I do have quite dry skin if that makes any difference!
