Wedding make up- how much stronger than normal are you going?

nat2683, 28 March, 2011 at 18:41 Posted on Planning 0 14

I'm getting married in 12 (ahhhhh... ok.. breath) days and everything is pretty much sorted apart from my makeup.

Im having a hair and makeup lady on the day, I wasn't really happy with the make up trial, but got a bit carried away with all the excitement, so Im asking her to come back for another go. Since the trial I've been made up at both MAC and Bare Minerals- 2 of my faves, trying to find my wedding look, but I think Im just getting myself into a tizzy. I dont want to have my second make up trial until I know what I want because the make up lady's not a mind reader!

So what I guess I'm asking is how much different to your normal everyday make up are you going for your wedding ladies. I wear makeup every day, have long dark hair and white skin so I don't want something too natural.

Specific qs:

1- If I have smokey eyes and a nudey lipstick will my lips look to bare in pics;

2- Is anyone having their eyebrows pencilled in so they look darker, I have "decent" threaded eyebrows, both MAC and Bare Minerals have pencilled them in to make them a bit darker, but Im not sure if they will look silly or just right on the day.

Sorry for the long warbling message, but any tips would be muchos appreciated!

I wear fairly dark eye make-up on a normal day so going for a smokey look there on the day too. At my first trial my make-up lady stencilled my eyebrows to make them darker because I've plucked them to oblivion, but looking at the photos I really didn't like it so won't go for that this time. Most different thing she did was apply a few individual false eyelashes to open up my eyes a bit and that looked fab.

Lips... I have no blimmin' idea.

I want to try and achieve a flawless Glam look on my wedding day and I was really disappointed when I went to a wedding fair and the lady demonstarting make up on her model did not look any better than I could do myself.

I have been researching on the internet and some makeup artists do a air brush base which apparantly they use on a lot of tv stars as hd tv shows up imperfections.

Not sure if It will look to heavy though any thoughts or anyone that has had this done would love some feedback before I spend out on a trial.

Hey date twin, how are you feeling about next week??

I have dark hair and faily pale skin and when im going out i normally wear smoky brown eyes and nude lips. I have had my make up trial and opted for grey/silver smoky eyes and im sticking with my normal nudish lipstick and gloss. Im keeping the make up fairly light and will probably add to the eyeshadow and liner at night once the party starts.

I went to the Bobbi Brown Counter for my lipstick and the girl there told me that a nude lipstick/gloss is ok as long as there are pink tones in it cos this will show up in your photos. She told me to avoid brown nudes as they wont show and will make you look fairly washed out. The Bobbi Brown gloss in Nude is gorgeous, its got a pink tone to it and stays on really well thats what im going for with the lipstick to match!

If you are on 'hitched secret girlies on facebook' (email lynsey @ lynseys Designs to get added if you are not) I posted a pic my make up trial from wkend on it yesterday. I have smokey eyes - ie eyeliner and a very light lilac / grey on lids (not an obvious colour if that makes sense - though i rang yesterday and said to not bother with the liquid eyeliner on top of the kohl - i'll have eyelash extensions in on the day so I dont think i'll need it) and my lips were a nude pink. She actually used Rimmel long lasting lipstick in 777 - Asia & I really liked it so i bought it so I have it for the day itself. I also bought a maybelline long lasting lip tint thing (the one with the clear gloss at the end) in a similar colour which i'll use as well for a base colour.

Ive a fringe but I still requested for my eyebrows to be filled in - i like 'defined' and 'sculpted' looking make up.

Generally - day to day I wear very little. If im out I wear the works & this is what i want on my wedding day.

What is this?? some secret hitched society! i feel all left out

I had a make up lesson at a bobbi brown counter and considering Iturned up in absolutely no make up she has made me a look that is a perfectly balance between my very natural daytime look and my very dark smokey eye evening look and i am really happy with it, have smokey ish eyes but in natural colours and I only ever wear lipgloss so she said to do a stain with lipstick and then put gloss over so it lasts longer, and it is a little pinker than I would usually go for but only one shade off my natural lip colour soo is really flattering

The lady who did my daughter's make up said that in photographs you lose about 40% of the colour so to go slightly heavier than normal. Must admit, I did my own smokey eyes on the day and probably went twice as dark as I normally would and I have to agree with her.... on the photos, it's not really visible enough whereas Alex's definitely was.

I did my own make up and didn't even think about what I was going to do until I started to do it.

I just did mine the same as I would if I was going out. I had my usual purpley & grey eyeshadow on with lots of mascara and no lipstick. That's the way I like my makeup so that's what I did.

I personally don't think you need to look different on the day.

I dont usually wear makeup in the day so my normal makeup is quite dramatic eyes and lots of bronzer as this is my evening look. I have bought a primer base and a 24stay foundation, then powder to set it, which is lots more than I usually wear. Then metallic bronze & golds on my eyes with black eyeliner and lots of falsies effect mascara (my usual look) plus some highligher and bronzer to define cheekbones. Should be striking enough to show on photos and last all day too!

I wouldnt say mine wasnt strong exactly..I had the individual eyelash extentions and gold eye shadow and purply lips. It wasnt as dark as I normaly do it...I normaly realy go fo smokey or dark eyes.....so felt strong but in a diffrent way.

I kept looking in the mirror saying that dosent look like me but everyone else kept saying how lovely I looked. Unfortuenatly I had to have a strong look as in the evening I would have looked washed out next to the asian outfit. I put on some red lipstick I got from Lancome myself. Looked great.

What my make up lady did realy showed up in pictures though I did notice that...shame in most of them Im blinking so look drunk lol

Stronger would be the wrong word to use to describe what I am thinking about wearing on the day,

What I what, and am thinking is about is more glamourosu, glitzy.

I plan to keep shades I like on me, but just turn up the intensity of colour a little, just a touch of extra contrast and then to add highlights.

Like you, I wasnt overly ecstatic with my make-up trial. I think I expected too much! I hate my skin and eyelashes and so was hoping she would do a good job of making my skin flawless but in reality I realised I am probably best at this as I know my problem areas and work harder on them! I felt my face looked too shiny, whereas I prefer the matt look as my skins gets very oily by the end of the day. I thought my eyes looked great as she used individual lashes and the eyeshadow was better than what I can do! Maybe your not meant to examine it close up cos from far away it did look good! Im just worried in case of close up pictures that I will look like a drag queen! lol I really cant afford to keep having trials so I dont know what else to do apart from go back and list all the things I wasnt sure on and get her to do it again as you could end up spending a lot of money trying different people, I suppose its hard to get it right first time!

I think its looks best with heavy eyes but in natural colours likes creams and browns and then your lips in a shade slightly darker than nude, either very light pink or brown with lots of gloss. I think if your eyebrows are verylight you should use some pencil so they are more defined.

Good luck for your wedding, you must be very excited!
