Wedding Menu Choices - Votes Please

Fergo, 13 September, 2012 at 12:59 Posted on Planning 0 33

My wedding co-ordinator has just emailed to remind me that my menu should be decided by our meeting next week.

So ladies, what would your choices be?

We menu will be set, no choices on the day (I have asked guests to tell us of any dietary requirements when they RSVP), there will of course be vegetarian options.

STARTERS

Tomato and Lentil Soup

Carrot and Orange Soup with Herb Croutons

Traditional Vegetable Broth

Haggis, Neeps and Tatties with a Whisky Sauce

Game Terrine studded with Pistachio Nuts with a Redcurrant Dressing

MAINS

Fillet of Scottish Salmon with a Lemon and Dill Sauce

Braised Scoth Beef with Red Wine and Onion Jus

Roast Breast of Chicken with a choice of Sauces (please also pick a sauce) - Sweet Pepper / Tarragon Jus / Cracked Black Peppercorn Cream

All above served with Fondant Potato, Roasted Root Vegetables and Braised Red Cabbage

DESSERTS

Creme Brulee served with Shortbread

Crisp Lemon Tart served with Chantilly Cream and Fruit Puree

Vanilla Cheesecake served with Dark Chocolate Sauce

Thanks in advance.

    Traditional Vegetable Broth

Braised Scoth Beef with Red Wine and Onion Jus

    Creme Brulee served with Shortbread

But to be fair - I'd happily eat any of it!

    Game terrine

    Beef

    Creme brulee

It sounds yummy and is making me hungry even though I've just eaten my lunch!

But like kharv, there isn't anything on there that I wouldn't eat!

Abstaining from picking a main course on vegetarian grounds, I'd choose veg broth and creme brulee. I bl00dy love creme brulee.

As a vegetarian FTLOMB, you would expect at least 2 choices of main course?

    Um, no.

I have been asked by friends to choose on behalf of the vegetarians, in the same way you are doing here.

But I'd never expect a choice in an invitation or on the day.

None of the starters particularly appeal to me but that's cos I'm a fussy beggar and hate soup.

For main I'd choose the chicken with the sweet pepper sauce and for dessert the creme brulee. I am a little addicted to creme brulee.

I'll ask what the choices are, think we have 2 vegetarians so could always contact them and ask what they'd prefer.

Game Terrine (but I'd only have that as the only starter if I knew most people would eat it)

    Chicken with Tarragon Jus

    Lemon Tart (nice & refreshing)

Hello Fergo, I would go for the following:

Game Terrine, Braised Scotch Beef and Vanilla Cheesecake

What a wonderful menu - perfect for a Christmassy wedding!

If it helps with your decision, it's always very flattering to think that the bride and groom are concerned with your needs. Vegetarians sometimes get forgotten about in mass catering events. I think it would be a lovely idea to contact them about the menu. Would you be able to order different meals for both though, if they chose differently? ?

And if you want them to love you more than anything in the world, have some plates made up for them from the evening buffet, before the meat-eaters rob all the veggie stuff.

I'm a veggie, but as a menu would pick terrine, beef & lemon tart

Not sure what the veggie otions are, but I prefer it when the main 'co-ordinates' with what the others are having. So for example, rather than a bowl of pasta I'd rather have a veg tart (or similar) that you have the vegtables that come with the meat dish

I'd go for game terrine, poss chicken in tarragon sauce and then lemon tart.

We only have one veggie coming so I'm letting her choose her meal as much as possible, she doesn't like mushrooms though which is usually the veggie default so I do need to make sure she's accommodated!

All sounds lovely but if I had to choose I would have:

    Game terrine

    Braised Scottish beef

    Lemon tart.

Yum, thinking about this is making my mouth water!!!

    My choice would be:

    -Traditional Vegetable Broth

    - Braised Scoth Beef with Red Wine and Onion Jus (Although the salmon would go down just as nicely)

    - Crisp Lemon Tart served with Chantilly Cream and Fruit Puree (But they all sound GOOD)

    It is a lovely menu!

Well I don't like soup as a starter but as your getting married in winter it may be best.

    STARTER

Carrot and Orange soup with Herb Croutons

Like the Game Terrine but without the nuts

    MAIN

Filler of scottish salmon with a lemon and Dill Sauce

I love fish so it would be the salmon however I think more people will go for the chicken

    DESSERTS

    Creme Brulee

I'm bias on this as I had Creme Brulee love the cheesecake as well though.

    SNAP!

We only had one veggie and she didn't like mushrooms, so like you I let her pick. It was only the main for her what was the problem.

Game Terrine (or Haggis Neaps and Tatties)

    Beef

    Creme Brulee

My simple solution to the vegetarian evening buffet quandry was to go for all vegetarian cheeses (meat eaters had ham available) chips (fine for veggies) a vegetarian tartlet option and 50/50 meat/veggie pasties - largely because I know full well that I (meat eater) often prefer the vegetarian options at a buffet because they are generally lighter and more what I fancy than the deep fried spring rolls/chicken wings that are the meat options. So I figured that as the meat eaters can eat veggie I'd massively overcater the veggie side of things and if we were running low (we didn't- gannets like me weren't all that hungry in the end!) the meat eaters could get stuck into vegetarian food.

I'm pleased everyone seems to like the menu choices!

Thanks for your input, it really is helpful.

I though the majority of people would choose the chicken but the beef is the clear winner so we're going to go with that, along with the tomato and lentil soup and the creme brulee.
