Wedding night in hotel or at home?

yes2011, 4 February, 2011 at 10:03 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi all,

I'm eager to find out if it's better to stay in a hotel for the wedding night or at home? And why? I'm thinking of a hotel but the rates are 200£ and over in Cambridge - and I thought I'd better keep the money for the honeymoon. On the other hand - how does it feel to wake up in a hotel the night after the wedding - of if I don't? Will I miss out?

Thank you!!!

Anja

P.S. My venue offers rooms but those are student rooms (party in a College) - the conference manager at the venue said she'd rather not recommend that we stay there Smiley winking

I think it's down to your preference and budget,

We're staying over at the venue as they give it to us for free as part of having our wedding their.

Does your venue not offer something like this if it has rooms?

I think no matter where you wake up home or hotel the feeling of waking up for the first time as a Mrs is there and that's what is special

We are staying over at the Venue (even tho it only 5 mins from home) as it was free as wedding is at the Hotel an second my Mum and her partner and my gran is staying at mine and my sister is parking her campervan in my garden and using my house to get ready etc!! So we will have a full house and be glad og the peace! Lol

But its upto yourself really and if it were me and i had a choice of paying to stay over or saving a couple of hundred quid for my honeymoon, well i know i would choose the honeymoon.

Our venue doesn't have accommodation, so we are debating this one as well. On the one hand, it would be lovely to stay overnight somewhere (not sure where mind), but we could use the money towards the honeymoon instead!

I'd check somewhere like Late rooms or ask friends if they can get any discounts - my company has a corporate rates website from which we can get cheaper rates, might be worth a look.

We are staying in a hotel as our new home will be 250 miles away and we don't get the keys until our wedding day.

We aren't staying at the venue but we are staying at a hotel. We can't afford a honeymoon so that's our treat. Also, most of our guests are staying at the same hotel but I haven't decided yet as to whether to be sociable at breakfast or do room service. I agree with your conference manager, not sure student accom would be very romantic. I can see the plus side to going home though. No disturbances, no need to check out by a certain time plus money saved for your Honeymoon. It's only one night afterall and I am sure your Honeymoon would more than make up for one night not spent in a Hotel!

We're wondering about this one too. Our venue isn't a hotel so no accomodation. We're recommending the local Premier Inn for our guests but it's not very romantic for a first night!! Our reception doesn't finish until 12 though so I think a hotel would be a waste of money for a few hours! x

We're staying in a hotel - but again, its our venue and the overnight stay was included as part of the pacakage. It's a small hotel - 17 rooms - and most of them will be taken up by friends and family. So whilst I would like to imagine a lie-in followed by breakfast in bed and a relaxing bath. I expect it'll end up being a huge cooked breakfast in the restaurant along with everyone else!

For me, it would be well worth the money, it will be an excuse not to have the step son in the room next door with his door open, luxury bed linen and bathroom, plus no cleaning, washing up, getting your own breakfast, wishing i'd hoovered, realising i need to put washing on it not how i want to wake up the next day! Our hotel is in a lovely setting and i think that will add to the romance of getting up the next day and other guests are staying as well, so will be lovely to see them in the morning.

The venue we're looking at doesn't have any accommodation... But it would be strange just waking up at home the day after!! Will have to look into a hotel!

Yeah ours is included luckily too as the alternative would have been to stay at my parents which I didn't fancy on my wedding night! lol.

Think we're going to try and stay at Hotel de Vin in Cambridge. They have some really nice suites and are really close to the centre.

We have the penthouse suite included as a part of our package - the room is bigger than our flat! We haggled with the hotel and managed to get it for the night before for £50 too, so I won't have to transfer any luggage from one room to the other and will have plenty of room to get ready.

If you can afford it I'd go for a hotel.

We are going home (although I think H2B would like to stay in a hotel.) This is because...

    1. We would rather have the money for the honeymoon

    2. There are no hotels near the reception venue anyway

    3. We are leaving on honeymoon at about 11.30am the next day

    4. The cat will want feeding!

I'm sure you've already thought of it but a quick word of advise on that one. If you're planning on getting ready in the honeymoon suite, make sure the hotel really cleans it and puts it back to order once you've finished getting ready. Make sure your bridesmaids have got everything of theirs out of it as well, I had one wedding where a drunk BM ended up hammering on the door wanting her stuff at 2am. Not pretty!

We're staying in the cottage in the grounds of our venue which comes free for the wedding night - also getting dressed there on the day. Our venue is only 20 mins from our flat though, so we'd probably have just gone home otherwise. x
