CMonk2b, 1 October, 2013 at 14:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 36

Hello you lovely ladies,

I have been lurking around this forum whilst planning our wedding and received some wonderful advice/ideas.

We have been shortlisted for the above competition, but we need your help, can you please vote for us, it takes seconds and you dont have to enter any information at all.

please use this link : https://www.yournorthwest.wedding/index.cfm and select Cheryl Prescott and Paul Monk Wedding - 6th July 2013

Thanks in advance ladies ?

Perhaps you should start canvassing now by arriving on forums and asking people to vote for you. In sure it will go down well.

im converting scariest hitcher again this year. Third place is so not for me.

In our "clique" we're only helpful to those people that contribute regularly and are part of the "in" crowd.

With only 24 posts to date, you're not very "regular" and I would suspect you are only posting in order to get votes and win.

I would of thought planning a wedding and getting married was being a part of the 'in' crowd - sorry is this site called HITCHED.co.uk, my sincere appologies if i have offended you with my mer 24 posts, no offence was meant how could i possibly compare to your thousand + posts.

I know, maybe i should start lots and lots of ramdom posts to bump my score up a little, then maybe i can progress from playschool and jump ahead to high school and be apart of the 'in' crowd or the 'clique' as you say

also if you wish to look harder, check out real wedding section - we are there too Smiley smile

It is your first post on Off Topic and as many of us don't venture much onto Wedding Planning, your 24 posts will have gone unnoticed.

It is therefore good etiquette to introduce yourself before asking a favour. As indeed it would be in real life - I don't suppose you'd burst into a party of people you don't know and demand a favour from them.

Please do introduce yourself here and start again if you would like to.

Sorry - but this is a forum - dont vote if you dont want too, im sure lots of people havent taken offence to my asking.

It's a simple 'will ya girl's/ladies' thats all OMG all this ranting over a forum post, im gob smacked.

Like you said you dont venture onto wedding planning, but however this is where most of us start.

but thanks for looking and maybe voting (lol) ?

    I voted.

What's with all the hostility...? I have either been gone too long and forgotten what OT was like or I have gone soft with motherhood. It wasn't always like this was it?

We don't go onto Wedding Planning as many of us are married and yes, we did start there.

*fed up with explaining and justifying self and forum etiquette so leaving this thread - sigh*

Unnecessarily bitchy imo. Hardly makes people feel welcome. Yes she may have not followed the ' accepted etiquette' but why keep reinforcing this clique thing to strangers?

Definitely not trying to be nasty but isn't getting married all about commitment to the person you love and want to be with forever rather than being about a competition? Weddings aren't just for show...

What clique thing? And I wouldn't think that was bitchy trixylou? IMO bitching is hiding what you have to say in a secret corner somewhere not putting it out there but perhaps I'm strange to see it that way.

op- had you been a regular then you would know that we are a friendly supportive bunch who help each other out massively when votes are needed (just ask kharv!) however to bowl in and be like 'hey vote for me' IMO was a bit...off for want of a better word (I'm still at work and I think my brain has ceased to function)

if you want to stick around and integrate please do, new members are always welcome if they want to be part of ot.

I haven't voted and I won't just because I don't really know you or much about your wedding enough to vote for you over other people ho have entered.

It's not about being a clique, I think it's about a bit of a weirdy bond you have with people which have been built over weeks/months of help, support and advice. Personally, I would be more inclined to want to help someone who has helped others more by posting regularly on here... That's just how I feel though.

Hey Hoddy - I don't think anyone would disagree with your sentiments, but the OP never suggested that her marriage was about winning a competition :o)

Exactly this! Smiley smile Not a big fan of people posting once to ask for something like this for votes to then probably disappear again, bit rude to me Smiley smile Doesn't offend me I just don't give a sh1t.

OP also didn't state why we should vote for her other than because she has been short listed, making me feel she is desperate for votes. I don't understand why anyone would make their wedding into a competition. If she doesn't win is her wedding any less of what it was because someone else's was 'better than hers'? Do you see what I'm trying to say? I'm rubbish at explaining!

I would prefer the OP was more up front so to speak- as in

''I know this is totally cheeky cause I don't really know anyone but if anyone can spare a sec would you vote for us- (insert spiel about why)''

But then OP and you have only really used hitched starting a couple of threads, one of which to reassure yourself about your dress (which looked fab btw) and sell stuff so feels a bit like you are just using a very popular forum for votes and your own gain. (ETA without contributing much to others threads.)

(yes I am the forum police today)

As others have said, it's poor forum etiquette to launch straight into begging for votes to win a competition without having first even attempted to built up a rapport with the regular users of this or the wedding planning forum. Many people here DO vote for one another in a variety of competitions, but it's part of the wider network of contributions we all make to the forum.

On a completely personal note, I will not vote for you because I find the whole concept of a "wedding of the year" contest slightly nauseating. Weddings are personal, intimate occasions, not fodder for comparing oneself to other couples.

I think I'll vote for the wedding where the groom was ill and ended up in hospital after the wedding. It sounds like they could use some good luck (and the prize would go some way to replacing their lost honeymoon days!)

Attack of the BOMs!!! I got a good dressing down when I was relatively new to Hitched. I won a tog for my wedding and gave a "shout out" to said tog who wasn't a HIB. As you can imagine it did NOT go down well at all.

True. Either way I thought "what a load of cowbags". I stuck around though Smiley smile I am one of these people that takes strangers on a forum very personally. Well I WAS at least, not so much now.
