wedding package?

JoannaD, 4 October, 2011 at 00:53 Posted on Planning 0 26

Hi all! This is my very first post. Me and my partner finance (still getting used to that!) got engaged a week past saturday (8 years together) and we're planning a small wedding, but my mother wants it to be memorable, so shes footing the bill... (thats a good thing) but because im such a good daughter im worried about her spending too much money so please tell me if you think this is a good deal

we have a quote for a wedding breakfast/evening reception venue (were marrying in my church) of around £3900 this would include

-Use of their private function room (private entrance - but also accessible from the main entrance where you have a little balcony to look down from - great place for dramatic bridal entrance lol) terrace bar and garden all day (from 12pm-2am)

-bucks fizz/orange juice on arrival for guests

-three course sit down wedding breakfast (for 50) (3 starter options, 2 main course options + 1 vegitarian option and 2 dessert options) with 2 glasses of wine per guest during the meal - followed by tea/coffee (we also get menu tasting free prior to the decision on the courses)

- glass of champagne for toast

- free bottle of champagne for bride/groom

-toastmaster

-cocktails and canape's for guests between breakfast and evening reception

- cold buffet for evening guests

- sparkling wine for toast for evening guests

- disco - inclusive of lights and staging for 4 hours

- table dressing (not including flowers)

- use of cake knife

- free meal in their private restaurant on our one year anniversary

the venue is GORGEOUS! and had good disabled access (very important)

what do people think? good deal?

these are some pictures

all together it works out as £78 per head including hire also for the space (whic h is 190 for the breakfast and the evening reception space for free)

The venue looks lovely and I think it's a really good deal- we have a simular package (obviously not exactly the same) and it works out at £104 per head so I think you have yourself a ggod deal!!

You've got a great deal there. I am paying £4000 for 70 day guests food (3 course meal), 90 on the night for a cold buffet. This does not include drinks, just corkage charge for me to supply my own drinks. And we do not get a dj for that either. I would be very happy with what you are paying.

Your venue looks beautiful and by the sounds of things it seems a pretty good deal to me. Have you looked at other venues in your area to compare prices? It seems to vary dependent on where in the country you are.

Excellent package! for a similar number we're paying £68 a head but not getting toasting glass for evening guests or choice for the dinner, which would be really nice. i'm in northern ireland.

The grand hotel was another option, right on the seafront but they wanted more or less the same for the food, but with 1040 on top for venue hire and it wasnt all that spectacular.

I live in the Newcastle area and so far this option is the best ione i have found, unless i want somewhere that looks cheap and nasty. We also looked at St. James Park football ground which has beautiful banqueting suites, but its quite hard to get to for out of town guests and rather on the pricey side.

the prices for the food is basically the same everywhere, its the cost of rental space that's different. And although the Grand hotel is nice there's nothing unique about it, whereas i think as you like (the place pictured) has a nice mix of traditional and quirky which is how i want my wedding to be.

it is! do you know much about it?

obviously were going to have a "recky" first and see what the food is like before we commit.

Girl at work recently got married there and she said it was great and the staff were fantastic. Have you been in for their food? It's great, I go alot on a sunday for their sunday lunch - YUM!

where are you/did you get married?

as for OH liking it doesnt reallyt matter... as he keeps saying "just tell me when to show up and where" he's not bothered about the planning and is happy to let me have full control which is AWESOME! He just doesn't want to wear a kilt or dance too much lol... i have this all under control, and just happy im not doing his "go to registry office, with 2 people from the street say i do and go home for chips" this is NOT happening lol.

Haha i did suggest your OH's idea and my fiance was up for it, but i didn't want to upset our families, We're getting married at the registry office in North Shields, and then having a meal and a party at Pitcher & Piano on the quayside. We originally planned to have a big do at Longhirst Hall up in Morpeth (which is beautiful btw) in 2014 but 6 weeks ago we decided to bring the wedding forward to November this year! we've downsized and are both much happier!

My OH has just left me too it as well, although i've run everything past him before booking so he at least has the opportunity to veto anything, but we both have similar ideas and tastes so it's been a pain free operation Smiley smile so in 6 weeks we have booked everything and now just have to finalise the food and pay for everything!

omg thats SO weird! I live in north shields (i say n'cle for people who dont know where n/s is) and until a week ago i lived down the street from the registry office. its a really nice spot for pictures afterwards.

I always wanted a big knees up celebration, and im kinda religious so im getting ,married at st. Josephs church (my parents and grandparents were all married there) - even though my dad is goign to try and save on wedding car by getting me to walk to the church which is literally down the street from where im living now lol

Reading this has just made me have a 'ping' moment!! my Mum had her 50 birthday party in there a few years ago and it was lovely- she only rented out the terrace bit and a little area with a bar (as you walk in you kind of walk to the back and it was on the left if that makes sense). at the time there was another party happening downstairs and you would have never know that staff were really good and from what I remember the food was lovely (as were the cocktails!!)

    Hi

I guess it all depends on the area you live in, but my reception is about £75 per head and it is one of the most expensive wedding venues in the area; my sister in law to be is getting married after us and her wedding is £55 pp which is in a beautiful 5 star country house hotel, including ceremony, reception drinks, 1/2 bottle wine pp, sparkling wine for the toast, 3 course meal, evening buffet, cake, use of cake stand and knife, chair covers and table decorations and use of the bridal suite. But as you can see from my choice, its not always about price - its all about the place and how much you love it!

haha always count on Dad's to come up with cost saving ideas! We're in Wallsend, i'm not from Newcastle originally but i've been here 8 years now and love it. Can't imagine being anywhere else!

Have you been to have a look round AYLI yet? All of the furniture and decor they have is for sale so if you fancy any of it, you can put in an offer!

It's exactly the deal I have been looking for and haven't been able to find! Too bad I'm nowhear near Newcastle! Book it, the venue looks beautiful and the price is enviable!

*edited to add, we are almost the same. My H2B just made it "official" on September 25th, also after 8 years (and 2 kids!). There comes a point when you think it's never going to happen, and then it does Smiley smile
