Wedding Photograpy - are our requirements realistic?

Merigold, 1 October, 2013 at 13:11 Posted on Planning 0 10

As part of our program of getting married on the cheap we had decided to skip photography. However now it seems like we do have a little bit of money left. We are getting married at the registry office with a small reception at the Mill at Elstead in Surrey. The Mill is beautiful and it would be a shame to waste its beauty by not having some professional photos taken.

I do not want to waste time thinking about it, worrying or stressing if my idea is not realistic.

So wondered if anyone has any input in regards to my idea which is basically hire a photographer to meet us at the reception venue, take an hours worth of shots ( must include the traditional group photo) with a few prints and the rest digital. Our wedding takes place on a Wendsday in June so not a time when they would be super busy ( I am assuming). For a price around 200quid. I don't want to start asking photographers if asking for what we want and the price we can afford is unrealistic.

Is it possible?

I think the only way you are going to know is if you contact some local photographers and ask the question. We could all say 'of course you'll get that' but its not up to us ?

It's something I would do. (and have done before).

It only gets messy or difficult at weekends when a tog has to give up a larger booking. A Wednesday in June isn't going to be a problem for anyone.

It's worth just asking togs in your area. Because its weekday and the duration some might work within your budget, As well as hiring a pro for the time you specified you can also see if any student photographers would shoot the rest of the wedding.sometimes they are free due to building up their portfolio.

Definately worth asking around. Photographs IMO are so worth it!

Fh and I are doing a lot of DIY and trying to save money on our wedding. Photography was one area, I didn't want to skimp on. At the end of the day, besides memories, photographs is what you have left. It will go so fast!

As Chris says, you may well get someone as it is midweek....although most likely it would be a local-ish tog as few would want to rack up mileage for a small return. Ask and email a few, then take your pick of those that are willing.

Good photography is an investment worth having for your married life and will gain in sentimental value over the years.

You know what you want, get together a template email and send it to all your local togs. If they're interested they'll get back to you and you can look to meet a couple and see what you think. All it will cost you is the price of an email (which is er, nothing!). I'd be surprised if you don't end up with something very close to what you're looking for.

If it was a weekend I'd have said you'd have struggled, but for a weekday I reckon you can get away with it!

Have a look on gumtree for togs in your area, many will still be trying to build their business and will suit your budget.

Ours was £500 and we found many togs on gumtree for that price, but it is for all day, I think you will certainly find someone for a short amount of time on there to suit your budget xxxx
