Wedding planners.....

Cecdesigner, 17 March, 2013 at 19:04 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all.

We went to a wedding fayre today and met with a wedding planner.

Whilst I have sorted (booked) most items and will have it all sewn up before the wedding, We are musing over the thought of having someone tie up the final loose ends and be there on the day.

We have been quoted £300 for 2 weeks contact and be there on the day. I am wondering if this is an expense worth it since I am a teacher and time is not my friend (for 39 weeks of the year)- I am getting married about 8 days after the end of the summer term and the end of the term is mental and mixing that with wedding things and trying desperately not to get ill!

We have booked a consultation with the lady we met who is wonderful. I would love to know your opinions and whether its an expense worth having?

For you it sounds like a good idea.

£300 for a smooth day with a happy bride and groom, sounds like a bargain!

I had one and she was worth her weight in Gold. I picked a venue without a on site coordinator so she was there to put my tables how I wanted them, meet suppliers arriving etc. Worth it for me.

What type of venue are you having? Most decent venues will have an onsite coordinator that will take care of things on the day.

I think you should write yourself a list of the things you think you will need to do on the last few weeks of your wedding as many thing you could probably delegate to OH/ other family memebers

If it gives you peace of mind, £300 is a bargain. My 2 best friends will be taking over from me the day before I get married as I can trust them 100%, 1 will be concentrating on the venue and the other on the Church. I can then relax and know that I will have nothing to worry about.

We are having a church wedding and then the reception at a hotel. We do have a co-ordinator at the reception, Its just me worrying about all the things go wrong- Im more concerned for the morning and the weeks prior- due to the fact I dont think I will be in any fit state to do much!

I dont live near my family and my mum can only spare a few days to help and enjoy the day. I dont feel right asking them since I want them to enjoy the day also.

ForTheLoveOfMrsBrown- cecdesigner was a business I tried (in vein) to get off the ground, but to no success. I now teach Design and Technology, but Im always open to any business suggestions- graphical or product design.

Most planners work by charging you - whatever, and then say that they have special deals with suppliers that means you will save money.

I get contacted by planners from time to time and they want me to give them a discount, in return -they say for supplying me with weddings, the trouble is I don't need the help of anyone to get fully booked, because I am a fantastic talented successful photographer (my tongue is firmly in my cheek to make a point) but if I was not so, then I would be happy to give a discount in return for some weddings from the planner. The planner will say they have a selection of suppliers that they know are good etc, No they have a selection of suppliers who are willing to and are needing to give a discount.I have also noticed that planners can come and go, they set up after successfully organising their own wedding and then fade away when they can not get other suppliers onboard --or the only ones that they can get, they don't really want. There was one I know that even set themselves up just as it turned out to get massive discounts from suppliers in return for exposure on her website and preferential treatment at wedding fayers that she organised, and as soon as she was married she disappeared along with the website.

You do not need a planner as your venue has the in house expert - the co ordinater. If you concentrate on hiring fully professional suppliers, and maybe your £300 will help that. Then the suppliers are all expert in their field and each will integrate with the supplier either side of their own part on the day.

A big part of my job as a wedding photographer is to co ordinate with everyone on the day and its part of what I do to make sure that everything stays on time, until I hand over to your venue coordinater. If you can handle a class of kids im sure you can cope with your wedding.
