Wedding planners - any one used them?

*Red*, 10 July, 2010 at 22:10 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all

I have been browsing on line and stumbled across the web site http://www.weddingplanningschooluk.com where they ask that you offer a wedding planning student some experience in helping with your day for free!

Im honestly snowed under and having someone there on the day so i could relax and know that everything was in hand would be super but im a touch nervous when things seem to good to be true! -Anyone had an experience of this or know any one who has - i never fully trust online testimonials.

Thanks

Katie

Let me guess... You're a wedding planner? or it's your website? Or are you a 'genuine bride' just wanting to help brides by joining a forum and in your first post sharing with us an AMAZING website that you just found on the off chance?

    Hmmm....

Read the rules and go away!!!!!!

I personally wouldn't pay for a wedding planner when its something I can do for free. There are good wedding planners out there the take commission from the suppliers they book but again I think this is risky because the planner might only suppliers that they get a better commission with. Tricky to know what to do but you end up making all the decisions anyway so why have a planner?

I read the following article and I am still not convinced what to do http://factoidz.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-using-a-wedding-planner/

I agree thank you for such a warm welcome to the site Mrs Spink to be! I am actually getting married on Sept 4th to my BF of 10 years and due to a crazy professional life and my MoH being awol i could actually do with some help but yes did only join yesterday for some advice on this very topic - i didnt say the site was amazing i inferred that it seemed to good to be true and wanted others opinions - although one so candid leads me to believe that perhaps my pre nup time would be better spend else where!

Thank you for those who took the time to actually post something related to the topic - i apreciate your imput!

We are sorry if you took offence, your original post was written in a very similar way to those that join just to advertise.

We are a very honest forum and will say what we think.

As a planner/co-ordinator, I'm a obviously biased, but a lot of my brides like the fact that I can whittle down the choices to match their requirements and negotiate the best possible price for them. I don't take any commission from suppliers and I only recommend suppliers I would be happy to use for my own wedding (although I'm not planning to get married again - my husband will be relieved to hear!)

I agree that the bride and groom end up making all the decisions, but if I can give them 2 or 3 of each supplier which match their requirements, it can save them a lot of time, stress and money. It's the difference between a choice of 3 or a choice of the 120 in the yellow pages or in the wedding magazines.

Even for the most organised bride who does all her own research and finds the best suppliers, I would still recommend an on the day co-ordinator. You spend a lot of time and money to get everything right - why would you leave the day to chance?
