Wedding planners.... Does anyone use them?

sarahanita, 21 September, 2013 at 20:54 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hey everyone,

I have recently had my wedding, I planned and made most everything and enjoyed every single bit of it. I have always been extremely organised and loved weddings. Everyone has said to me that I should become a wedding planner as I loved it and always have spoke about becoming one in the past.

I just wanted to get everyone's advice before a actually pursue this, would any one use a wedding planner. And if so what would you look for etc.

i would appreciate anyone's advise.

thank you in advance

sarah

Im not sure i would use one A, because they have a reputation for being very exspensive and B, I love the idea of organising my wedding and am not sure i would want to share the credit for all the hard work ? Saying that if i thought it would mean my day would be more likely to go smoothly and it was reasonably priced I could be persuaded to.

My sister is a wedding planner, she has been a massive help and I would've been mega stressed if it wasn't for her. I've still had complete control but my sister has done most of the donkey work ?

No, I enjoyed shopping and ensuring I got the best prices. Wrongly, I'm sure, I wouldn't trust someone else to work as hard or go as far as I would in that regard. However, someone on the day to pull everything together made such a difference.

I'm not having one although our co-ordinators are a huge help and will be on the day.
It's the sort of thing I like to plan myself and be involved in, however there are so many planners out there and loads of people want to make sure the job is done 100% efficiently and put their trust in them if they don't want to do anything themselves.

I think that most people on Hitched are usually quite interested in wedding planning and sorting things out for themselves (hence why they joined a wedding website) so probably aren't the best people to ask. But, I do think that there are probably lots of people who would use a wedding planner, you just need to find your market.

I say do your research, perhaps get in touch with wedding planners online and find out what services they offer (many do more than planning, such as on-the-day-coordination or venue styling) and also find out if there is a demand and what they charge. There is even The Wedding Planner school, based just outside if Bristol! As others have said, there is definitely a market for "coordination" - we've just booked a lady who will run our day for us and confirm with suppliers, etc in the run up. We are having a DIY village hall wedding, so really wanted someone there to keep things ticking over. I think it's worth a shot if you do your research.

Definitely not. Our wedding was hard work and a lot of it was DIY so I did stress a bit but I would never have handed it to someone else. We got more value for our money without a middle man and with 140 guests we needed to save where we could.

We got told that we could do it professionally. Are you 100% sure it's not something that people just say?

My friend has one but I don't.

Personally I wouldn't want one as I enjoy the planning but I can see why people with very busy lives might want one as they perhaps don't have the time for researching (and joining sites like this which help enormously).

My friend's planner stuffed up on something too which would worry me about getting someone else in to plan one of the biggest days of my life.

Hi I think that some people would benefit from a planner, I asked the same thing , they can keep you in control but do all the leg work, keep an eye on budget and help with sourcing, I said I wanted a pale blue vintage type car, she came back with 3 options pics and prices , she would then book every in and make sure nothing goes wrong , I will be nervous enough without worrying about that, they also can strike up deals and save you money, so husbands are pleased

Thank you so much for all your comments.

I would love to become one but as people have said i don't know whether people would want to either pay for one or let someone handle things. I think i would be more inclined to let the couples tell me what they want me to do if they themselves want to be hands on but want my contacts and deals or if they wanted to me to do everything then i would be able to.

I would like offer a wide variety of services, from full planning to helping with what needs to be done, a step by step guide etc or just ideas for the styling.

What would you guys like.... what would be the turning point for going to me instead of someone else?

    Sarah
