Wedding planning

Sparklebright, 21 June, 2013 at 11:23 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hiya

the reason for this post is to get some feedback on an idea I've had for a business.

Following 5 years of event planning from large corporate conferences to very small intimate gatherings I've decided I want to pursue my dream of wedding planning. Now I know a lot of people will steer away from wedding planners because they are costly and the fact people want to do things themselves which is why my idea is to offer something a little different. Packages would include

full planning from beginning to end

part planning

invitations and RSVP monitoring

day coordination for those who want help on the da and aren't going to places where there are wedding coordinators

one off consultation to get the bride and groom on the right track.

I would also like to offer day packages where brides to be and their families can come to a personalised workshop around event design, planning and colour etc. This would be a good chance for them to have some fun, a glass of bubbly and afternoon tea and learn how to make wedding planning enjoyable, hassle free ( to an extent) and learn how to get the look and feel they want without breaking the bank.

To publicise my business I would make links with local suppliers and perhaps do offers for instance get 10% off a package of your choice if you book your photography with.... As well as attending local wedding fayres, have a decent website and local press publicity. The cost of setting the business up isn't of concern but I wanted some initial thoughts

What do you think?

I'm not convinced you are actually proposing anything different to what is already available if I am honest and the market is pretty saturated with wedding planners.

I think budget/DIY brides would be more interested in on the day coordination and big budget brides can afford the luxury of going with someone more experienced.

    I second what Funky said.

My friend has a wedding planner and she offers all the things you've listed above.

I think do it if you want to and it's your dream but it really will be hard work as there are so many planners out there and so many people who want to go in to it after planning their own wedding.

Other than the money off, you might want to think of something else which will grab the attention of people over other planners.

I'd perhaps not target brides in the first instance but venues, most have wedding co-ordinator types but smaller venues or any that are looking to cut costs might appreciate a freelancer. This would give you a chance to build up a network of suppliers that you trust and some valuable experience and the venue get someone to look after all the bridezillas!
