Wedding Presents/Money/Vouchers??

Nyssa82, 13 May, 2014 at 10:20 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi

I'm in the process of getting my invites done and my partner is adamant he does not want to include anything about presents or money etc. He doesn't like it when people put a poem in asking for money and thinks that as everyone knows we have been together a long time they will just give us money or vouchers anyway??

I'm happy to go with that but would be a bit worried that we might get some useless gifts but I don't want to ask people for money. What are your views on this? If you were invited to a wedding and they hadn't included anything re gifts what would you do?

Thanks

We've discussed this quite a bit recently, you might find these threads useful Smiley smile

Please include something! It makes it so much easier for the guests.

I got married before online registries and we had a written list. A lot of our friends knew each other so we asked for it to be passed on & strips torn out etc.

After the wedding we discovered the friend who had it first never passed it on. We got so many duplicate gifts, it was such a shame. People had no idea what to buy us and did not ask.

We didn't put anything in our invites, only 2 people have mentioned that a present list was not included. OH is now concerned we will not get anything. I am honestly not bothered if people dont give us anything, although cards would be a nice keepsake Smiley winking I like the fact that anything will be a suprise on the day Smiley winking

We didnt include anything at all.

We got over £1500 in cash, £500 in various high street vouchers, and a few lovely personal gifts.

If I was a guest and there was nothing on the invitation I would give cash. Its pretty standard now. I agree with yout H2B, put nothing.

If we'd been given cash that would have been fine. We got LOADS of towels! A lifetimes supply.

We also got strange items, one of them we never identified what it was!

It's not that I'm worried about getting unwanted gifts, I'm more concerned that people will waste money on something that we have no use for and it will collect dust in a cupboard or be given away? If I'd bought someone a wedding present and found out that it was a waste of money and they'd gave it away I'd be quite upset. I'd rather receive nothing than for people to waste their money on something we don't need x

I'm not going to put anything in I've decided. If I was invited to a wedding and they hasn't asked for anything and they'd been together for years I'd stick some cash in a card x
