** Wedding report with flashes ** 19.04.14

FHB, 2 May, 2014 at 20:23 Posted on Planning 0 16

So, time for a wedding report now that it is all done and dusted and I'm back to the real world with a bang. Mondays are hard anyway let alone when your coming back from your wedding. I was off from the Tuesday before our wedding, with the sole intention of pampering myself. I'd had my hair done the week before but left everything else for the few days running up to the wedding. On the Wednesday I had a full set of semi permanent glamorous lashes put on as I didn't want any mascara running on the big day. On the Thursday my work friend Louise came round to the house and did mine, BM1, BM2, MOB and a friends nails with gelish. It was so lovely having all the girls round at the house buzzing with wedding chatter. We also got waxed that day...it had been 15 months since I'd had my eyebrows waxed last (I'd just been tidying up with the tweezers!) and the beautician had a blast reshaping, and what a fab job she did. When it came to the Friday I was starting to get a little uptight about decorations, decorating the venue etc as I had made a lot of the deccys myself and had a vision in my mind of how I wanted it to look..but was having trouble relaying it all to my venue stylist. In the end, the only thing that calmed me down was boxing everything up, labelling it all and then sending her one mammoth email explaining everything down to the last gem placed on the table. And once she had collected all the bits I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. OH surprised me, he had booked me in for a deluxe full body massage which I have to admit, set me up for the whole weekend. We had our rehearsal at the chapel on the Friday night and I can honestly say that was the first time I felt any kind of nerves, but even then they were fleeting. I said my goodbyes to OH who spent the night at his folks, and me at mine. We texted each other once or twice but I think we both just relished in the moment we got to spend with our families as the last time without being mr & mrs. BM1 arrived around 9pm and after a few glasses of prosecco we headed to bed.

I slept for a solid 8 hours and woke up feeling refreshed and relaxed. Our make up artist and hairdresser arrived at 9am and set to work on the bridesmaids whilst mum and I faffed about sorting money for things to be paid on the day and ordered breakfast rolls to be delivered. Mine was a Lorne roll, 2 bites and I couldn't fit in anymore. We cracked open a bottle of champagne and listened to cheesy tunes whilst being pampered. My friend arrived to get some video shots of us and we played up to the cameras a little with our half done hair and finger moustache tattoos. He then disappeared to OH's house to get all of them on candid camera. OH had made me and the girls our very own pumps for the dance which we opened on the morning. So adorable! Before I knew it, the flowers had arrived which set my mum off crying. I didn't cry but I was close...the flowers were spectacular. Better than imagined! It was soon time to get me in to my dress which I can honestly say was an absolute nightmare mission. Unfortunately I'd put on 1.5 stone since I bought it off the rack almost 2 years prior to the big day and whilst it fitted fine, it took a lot more energy to get it on and looking grand. Finishing touches were done, earrings etc and then the cars arrived to whisk us away. BM's set off with mum in the first car and I stood at the front door of the house, having my first wobbler moment. It took all my strength not to burst in to tears. I think I had just had too calm a morning. Dad soon calmed me back down and led me out, all the neighbours came out for a nosey and witnessed me (un)elegantly belly flop backwards in to the car. The only way I could see myself getting in?!We were 15 minutes late to chapel due to road works but as I arrived the piper began and friends waiting outside gave me a wave.

After a couple of snaps it was in to the chapel and off we go.I've only been to a handful of weddings recently but I can honestly say our officiant has to be the most relaxing, funny and entertaining chaplain we have ever come across. He put me at ease as soon as he started to speak and the trembling stopped. It felt like our service was over in a flash.Once the piper played us out, the long process of stiff family snaps at the chapel door began. After a while OH whispered "here comes the two most important people"...I looked around bewildered only to see our two pooches making their way through the crowd and that was the moment I burst in to tears. Mortified does not describe it! I think I'd been holding in my emotions and then the surprise and lovely gesture just set me off. A tissue appeared from somewhere and we got some lovely snaps of us and them (so sad but they are my babies !). Next was another surprise, in all the excitement I had not noticed a rickshaw bicycle and driver sitting at the bottom of the road. That was our chariot to the next photography venue! The poor cyclist didn't know what hit him, as we aren't exactly a light couple but it was so much fun going slowly along the road with people waving and saying congratulations, taking pictures etc. our videographer friends drove alongside hanging out the window to get a shot of us. I felt like Kate in her carriage haha!!

We got some lovely couple shots at the point of these beautiful Victorian styled islands in the city centre, around the river ness and headed off to meet up with the bridal party at play park with a bandstand. Hopefully when I get our pro pics I can update this with a flash as they are such beautiful spots for pics and we had a scorcher of a day.

Back at the hotel our receiving line was quite and everyone was seated and raring to go. Dad kicked off the speeches and brought a tear to my eye. It's amazing the things they say infront of a room full of people, that you've never heard them say when it is just the two of you. OH did his speech spectacularly well..I had been dreading it as he has a tendency to ramble but it was just perfect. As was the best men's speech who both did a fantastic job at making us all laugh. The meal was served without a hitch - lentil soup and crusty breads, highland chicken and seasonal veg or mushroom risotto and then strawberry cheesecake. Delish! Although I did only have a few mouthfuls. (Tight dress gah!)
We had a few ceilidh dances in the evening followed by a mix of old and new, and can honestly say the dancefloor was never empty. Mostly down to the fact that once my mother starts dancing..you can't get her to sit down! Our bathroom baskets were a big hit with lots of people commenting on how useful they were and our sweet vs salty snack bar was hit hard. Unfortunately my photo corner didn't get used as we stupidly tucked it in a corner of the seating area, which was quickly filled out with people and inaccessible. Never mind! We handed out free shot tokens as part of our wedding favours and it was so lovely watching groups of friends and family at the bar doing tequila slammers etc. even the kids got in on it with a shot of coke! Too cute. (Encouraging alcohol at a young age...ach well we are scottish !)

Before we knew it, it was 1am and I literally could not wait to peel my dress off and have a shower. It is sad to think how quickly the day went, but I loved absolutely every second of it. I drank more than I ever do but was stone cold sober with adrenalin. I ate nothing all day but felt full to burst - probably with excitement!!

I couldn't wait for the pro pics to do my report but I will definitely update this bad boy when they do come! I just wanted to share anyway Smiley smile
