Thursday - Hen Night
Was really calm until I went to the hairdressers for trim and started feeling sad and stressed! Had to iron Mr Neph's shirt and finish making ribbon roses/buttonholes. By the time my friends started to arrive I had calmed down. Had dinner which was yummy Jordanian food and the make-up lady and her sister arrived (both friends of one of my sis-in-laws) everyone was getting on and chatting away and after we ate I had my make-up trial and put on a bit of my Saturday outfit (veil etc.) to test it all out.
By 11.30pm everyone had gone home accept my two sis-in-laws who were doing my mendhi/henna. Eventually got to bed at 1.30am!! They taped my hands and feet in sandwich bags with masking tape which was quite a bizarre sight!!
Friday - Register Office
Woke up bright and early, got myself ready including make-up and hair, went over to Mr Neph's house where everyone was still geting ready! Mr Neph and I drove to Register Office with photographer (sis-in-law's OH) and Mr Neph's brother. Best man was waiting when we got there and my parents were inside. Before I knew it we were called inside for our interview and saw the registrar who was lovely. When we were about to go in, the assistant registrar who was also lovely came out and said there was only one witness; the best man...I had been welling up and so I relaxed and said it was my mum...heard the lady go back in and tell my mum she was witness and she said "oh is it me?" made me giggle which was great and neither of us stopped grinning throughout the ceremony.
Saturday - Asian Reception/Islamic Contract
Woke up and was a little excited, then one of my sis-in-laws phoned and I looked out of the window and screamed as it was such a perfectly gorgeous day!! Make-up lady and her sis arrived to dress me. The sister was really ill (turns out she has swine flu poor thing). My parents arrived after a while. I was nearly all ready when sis-in-laws turned up for their make-up/hair etc. Then everyone left apart from me, parents and one sis-in-law. Waiting was sooooo hard!! Then my parents left too and it was just me and my sis-in-law, started getting teary again!
Mr Neph's (non-identical) twin brother turned up to collect us and then we arrived at the restaurant. Everyone was vying to get a good look at me. Arrived to see Mr Neph looking very sauve (he looks short in the pics but he's not really!) My friend's husband conducted the nikah which was lovely and then, not a moment too soon, it was time to eat!! The food was wonderful and sis-in-law had made wedding cakes which looked gorgeous and tased even better. It was wonderful meeting all my new relatives. There was such a lovely family atmosphere which I didn't expect as only my parents were there for my side of the family.
Went back to Mr Neph's with some fo the family, eventually after more photos I was allowed to change as my sari petticoat was making me feel ill it was so tight (or maybe I ate too much!). Enjoyed a lovely evening with some of the closest relatives - even started playing scrabble (think family Christmas it was a bit like that)! Went home at some point but don't remember that bit!
Monday - Interview in Winchester
Went to Winchester even though I felt really ill, got better by the time I was there, had a very short interview (was there a total of 45 mintues) and chat with the lady I'll be working with and got the job (starting a week on Monday)! I was getting the train back and when it came to saying goobye I was rather teary, got on my quiet carriage and could see Mr Neph waving so I waved back. When I spoke to him on the phone later I mentioned this and he said he couldn't really see me or know if I could see him, but he thought he'd wave anyway ❤️ can't wait to see him tomorrow!!
If you made it this far, I think you deserve some pictures...
more pics coming up...
