Depends on how superstitious you are! I'm a jeweller and have been told not to make our rings as it's bad luck :/
I have a friend making ours - although if you make each others, that might be OK - I have no idea how superstitions work, haha! Making rings is pretty simple and it's good fun Smiley smile

Am based round the corner on Kirby St if you wanted to ask me any questions in person - always happy to help out a fellow Hitcher Smiley smile

As long as you want simple bands, it's pretty easy Smiley smile
IMO, yellow gold is the easiest to work with and solder, followed by silver, white gold, and platinum/palladium (sorry - geek out there!)

There is something really satisfying about making a ring; I love it when I get to see the finished result and the look on a bride's face Smiley smile If you're not bothered about the superstition, go for it! If I wasn't so stupidly superstitious, I'd have made my engagement ring already, rather than dithering for 6 months waiting for a friend to do it, haha! Smiley tongue

Thanks for coming back to me - yes both simple plain bands (mine will need to be shaped but they've said they'd do this part/heavily help) so should be ok and make for a nice day too. Haha, it must be weird to be a jeweller and waiting for a someone else to make your ring for you! it must be a very satisfying job though. Thanks for your help!

No worries! Always happy to help people out in the one area I am an expert in, haha!

Ah, it's good that they are helping you with the shaping, that can be a real b(*ch at times! Smiley tongue

Yes, it's pretty frustrating having to wait - especially as I have had a bag (a small bag, but still a bag!) of diamonds on tick from one of my suppliers for SIX MONTHS! Hopefully I will know what I'm using and can give the rest back really soon, before they come for my kneecaps, LOL!

Yes - H and I did this for our rings 2 years ago. It was great! I'll dig out the photos tomorrow when I'm not on my phone...

Here you go, this is my report from our day there. Photos are not great quality but hopefully it shows you a bit of the day! It was more expensive than just buying the rings but we thought it was well worth it.

Hatton Garden's in London - nearest station is Farringdon.

I'm sure there are places in the jewellery quarter in Birmingham that do it, too
