Wedding ring confusion

Piestar, 30 April, 2013 at 20:33 Posted on Planning 0 4

I like to be different and when I started looking at wedding rings realised I wanted something a bit different to your usual plain bands. I love starts, so searching the internet came across this ring by a guy called Chris Parry: https://chris-parry-handmade.co.uk/web/?wpsc-product=twinkle-twinkle-lil-star

I contacted him via his website as it said to to get a quote for the same ring in platinum as that's what my engagement ring is. I had no reply. Found his page on Facebook, like it and commented on a post saying I had contacted him. No reply. Sent him a message with all the details and a link back to the ring on his website. Still no reply - even when he was still posting things on his page!

Would you give up?? With silver ones about £66 from him, I'm hoping his platinum ones aren't too expensive.

Found a lovely local jeweller who works with designers and she got me some quotes for a similar ring but they're all coming in waaay over what I want (and can) spend on a ring. Platinum was £1250, Palladium £700, she's getting more quotes in silver. I know platinum will wear silver down but it can take years and years (I've worn a silver eternity ring with my engagement ring for about 5 years with no obvious marks from it).

I know getting a ring designed was always going to be dearer, but I can't see why the jump in price - a plain 4mm platinum ring from Argos is about £400 and a 3mm one with stars on through the local jeweller is £1250. It doesn't seem justifiable!

I really, really like the lady at the local jewellers, I know I can't let this influence my decision, but I love the ring from the above website. I'm stuck what to do as I have kind of set my heart on it. Would you give him another chance and maybe ring him up to actually speak to him??

Thanks!

I think it's worth shopping around. I had my wedding ring made and engraved by alba rose (brilliant customer service too) using a really intricate design to match my engagement ring. 2mm palladium with the engraving cost £300. Tried to flash but it won't work, will try again later.

I'm guessing The Birmingham Jewellery Quarter may be too far for you to travel but some of the shops there do great prices on hand made rings.

I just don't get how they can be so much more expensive. Brum is a little far really, but it may be worth a run down once we find a venue. X

Managed to flash! a 3mm platinum flat band is coming up as £360 and then you just to add the engraving on top. got to be worth checking out? http://www.albarose.com/products/Bridal_1181/Wedding-Rings_5/Traditional-Bands_23

Thanks, I don't know whether they will be able to do that. I shall certainly ask.
