Wedding Ring Help

KLS013, 20 March, 2012 at 14:37 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi All

I am trying to find a wedding ring to sit next to my 3 stone engagement ring - My ring is a round cut sapphire with a pear shape diamond either side. Do any of you have preferences over shaped or straight wedding bands. I've seen a couple i like with a twist in the middle but I am wondering if anyone out there had a similar issue - I know some girls who refuse point blank to go for a shaped ring!

Any help appreciated x

Personally I prefer non-shaped rings as if the time ever came where I wanted/needed to wear just my wedding band, it would look ok alone. Whereas some shaped rings, but not all, would look a bit odd alone.

However if you never intend to wear you wedding band alone, and always alongside your engagement ring, then a shaped ring that slots around the stones would look lovely.

The best idea is to go round lots of jewellers and try things on, see what size and design you like most and then enquire if a rin like that could be made to fit around your engagement ring.

It doesn't matter what other people want really, does it?

    What would you rather?

I have a marquise diamond with two pear sapphires and I have a straight plain band that fits under the stones. My ER was designed with that in mind though so the stone is set slightly higher.

I didn't want a shaped one, and have got a plain standard shaped band to go next to my ring. There is still a small but barely noticeable gap where the sapphire extends further than the other stones. This is them together:

Also just to say, mine was designed the same was as Kharv's, so that the stones sit a lot higher than the wedding band. It was the only way the wedding ring would fit with the engagement ring.

This. Mine's actually a solitaire, but there is still a very slight gap. I'm not too worried about that though. Go with whatever you want. You're the one that has to wear it!

I agree with the others, it doesnt matter what anyone else wants really as it is you that will be wearing it.

I have a plain wedding band, my engagement ring is (well was, i dont actually wear it now since the jeweller I asked to change the size actually managed to break it - it has a "slit" in the gold now) a little ruby with some white stones (not diamonds) around it

Mine has a slight gap too, but it doesn't bother me either.

Thanks for the help, you girls all have lovely rings!

Seeing them has made me think that i could go with a straight band - i don't mind a little gap

I'm going to head off to the jewellers on Saturday and try some on - I'm getting it made in Dubai so I want to find one for them to copy and was a bit worried that if I wanted a shaped one it wouldn't fit as our friends are getting it for us when they are there on holiday

Thanks for showing me yours x

Your engagement ring sounds quite similar to mine as I have a round brilliant cut diamond with two pear shaped diamonds on the side.

I've just ordered my wedding band similar to this.

I originally just wanted a plain band but it sat really well with my engagement ring and looked nice on its own too. I'd definitely recommend trying on a few different ones though because a lot depends on how high your setting is etc.

KLS where in Dubai are you getting yours done as we're going the same route (well there or Qatar where my friends cousin works in a jewellers) - another very good friend of mine recommends Habib jewellers in Festival City - just trying to get the right email address for them.

I had my engagement ring made at Cara (www.carajewellers.com I think.) It's in the gold and diamond park.

Make sure you haggle - never take their first price !

I prefer straight rings, but those with a twist are also pretty. I dislike V shaped or zig-zag shaped wedding rings since I don't think they look good on their own. Others are free to disagree Smiley smile
