Wedding Ring Help

miss pickle, 2 August, 2013 at 10:10 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hello,

I am hoping someone can please help me ;-)

This is my engagement ring; it is antique Art Deco, circa 1930s and is made of 9K yellow gold and platinum.

After much perusing of wedding rings, I’ve decided that something like this would go really nicely with it...

Thin 9k yellow Gold flower Wedding Band ring, white/yellow gold wedding ring, Art Deco women wedding ring, flower engraved wedding band - £139

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/153815852/special-order14k-gold-hamsa-evil-eye?ref=col_view

My problem is the only place I have seen rings like that one are from other countries [the above ring is from Israel]. I’m a bit dubious for some reason to order it from abroad.

So I just wondered if any of you have seen any rings like this whilst looking for your own rings? Or I am I looking for something that doesn’t exist?

My budget is around £150 and I would like my wedding ring to be 9K gold so that there is no wearing down of my engagement ring.

Or, do any of you have any experience/advice regards ordering from somewhere like Israel? Would it get taxed on delivery, etc?

Any help/advice will be gratefully received ;-)

    Your engagement ring is gorgeous!!

Have you tried wedding rings on with your ER? Even if just to get an idea of what width band to get?

    Hi

Where are you based? Have you tried either Hatton Garden (London) or Jewellery Quarter (Birmingham)? There are a lot of places that don't have online stores, so it might be worth having a look at those.

Also, I agree with the previous poster - you really need to try a band on before you buy; as your engagement ring is shaped by the settings, it would be best to put a wedding band on next to it to see how they work together.
Another alternative would be to get a plain band and have it engraved (hand or laser) to get that pattern; I have contacts (am a jeweller, by the way!) that could do that for you

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I am in the North East so Birmingham and London are a bit far for me!

That's very useful to know that it would be a possible to get a plain band engraved; do you know what kind of cost it would be to get that done?

Regards the shape of the ring, I'm reluctant to get a wedding ring made specially to sit around the shape of the engagement ring as I will be wearing my wedding ring alone whilst I am at work and think it would look odd on it's own if it was funny shape.

Your engagement ring is beautiful - how nice to have something with a bit of history to it!

I too was looking for a wedding ring with an engraved pattern on it, and really struggled to find examples - seems like most rings are plain metal or metal + diamonds. My OH has a history of buying me gifts with roses on so we liked the idea of roses alternating with leaves (trees are also a theme with us!)

I was thrilled when we visited Hatton Garden and found a shop with loads of engraved rings - one of which was exactly what I had in mind. Here's a pic below.

The shop was (unimaginatively!) called 'The Wedding Ring Shop' It's a Brown and Newirth ring, and their website says they have stockists throughout the country. We found the examples in the shop were much nicer patterns than the ones they'd chosen for the website and catalogue so may be worth trying to find somewhere to see them in real life. http://www.brownandnewirth.com/patternedweddingrings.htm

You can probably tell from the picture that it doesn't sit flat against my shaped engagement ring. Like you I didn't want a wedding ring that would be a strange shape if I was wearing it without the engagement ring, so I accepted the different shapes and wear one on each hand. To be honest they still look fine together, but I think my fingers are too short to carry the look off anyway!

I'm also going to go with Alba Rose by the way.

Tried on a ring at a wedding show from a shop in Hatton Garden, £1300. Found an identical one at alba rose for £400 and I haven't heard anything negative about them either.

I second FF recommendation. They did my wedding ring and engraved it to match my engagement ring

Flash below but only cost about £300 for platinum so should be in your price range

Yeah, I see what you are saying; it would depend on the shape that you had the band, I reckon.

If you were to ask in a jewellers, or look online, you can find hand engravers that will work directly with you Smiley smile

    Hi,

My daughters both got theirs from Smooch and are very pleased with them.
