Wedding Rings

DanniB, 24 April, 2009 at 20:46 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hello,

Anybody have/planning to have plain wedding bands?

I ask because we were looking at diamond wedding rings and the cost for our 2 chosen rings was over £750. We have a fairly modest budget for the entire wedding, most of which has been taken up with our dream venue and catering costs and so are looking for ways to cut back on other things. H2b is thinking that having plain bands would be a way to cut some of the cost down?

I am happy to do this, as I have a lovely engagement ring and a diamond eternity ring. We have both seen ones we like and the plain rings come in at £208 for both.

What do you think?

Danni x

I'm just having a plain platinum band as I want to save the bling for my eternity ring (or as my friend Helen calls it, "maternity ring").

H and I both have plain tungsten carbide bands, and I don't even have an engagement ring. I love it - H got his from www.johngreeddesign.co.uk, but I had to order mine from a US site as I couldn't get a small enough size in the UK.

Tungsten is great - it's a bit heavier, is darker than silver or platinum and has a very slight bluish tone to it, so it looks really unusual. Best of all though, it's incredibly hard and won't scratch and is a LOT cheaper than many other metals. If you do get one though, make sure it's made using a nickel binder, not cobalt.

    HTH.

My H2B was very anti having diamonds in my wedding ring. Also I think it is more traditional to have plain wedding bands.

Just my opinion, but I prefer plain wedding bands as they are timeless - like love ?

Jewellers always try to sell you something different as plain bands are not as profitable as rings with stones.

By the way, I'd suggest using a local jeweller as well - we found that our local jeweller was cheaper and used better quality diamonds.

    Good luck!

H2B wanted a Titianium band. 7mm with a silver inlay. My engagement ring has s single solitair between two gold bands. I'm still toying with the idea of a diamond wedding ring, but I'm thinking that maybe I'll just get the plain one. Once the wedding band is on, there will be no more space for the "Maternity" band. So, we also thought that when that time comes, we could take the wedding band and then have some diamonds set in that.

Mines a 3mm plain platinum band. I did look at diamond set bands but the diamond in my ER just made them look a bit small.

Besides I like the idea of the plain wedding band being symbolic of love.

But everyone is different and individual so go for whatever you like best. You have to wear it for a long time!

Jennie - can we see a pic of your ER - jet sounds amazing!

Mine is a 3mm plain white gold band. I'm not big jewellery person, and prefer understated styles so it's exactly what I wanted.

I've got a plain white gold 4mm band, and H2B has got a Tungsten one.

I don't personally like the diamond set bands, plus with having 9 diamonds in my e-ring, it would look a bit "bling bling"

Plain bands are just classic looking.

I have a solitare and plain band and you can see pictures on a previous thread - https://www.hitched.co.uk/Chat/forums/t/107217.aspx.

I wanted a diamond wedding ring to begin with but now think a plain band is much nicer and more traditional.

I am having a plain band which twists to sit engagement ring in. As others have said I think plain is classic and traditional. It reminds me of looking at my nans hand and others the plain looks so elegant against an enagement ring. I have a single solitara, and the ring looks great next to wedding band

    Thanks ladies.

I am now definately going for plain bands for both of us! I have seen a lovely Palladium one which we are going to look at for me, and H2b just wants a plain 9ct white gold one, which means that both of the rings are likely to cost us just £300.

Means I can start looking into getting a videographer!! Smiley winking
